This lovely lass just walked into Propeller Coffee (984 Manhattan Avenue, between India and Huron)! She sports a collar, but no identification! If anyone knows to whom she belongs please shoot me an email at: missheather (at) thatgreenpointblog. (dot) com. Presently the owner of said establishment, Clare (who is a cat person like yours truly!) is taking her to the vet in the hope she has a microchip.* Thanks!

UPDATE, 6:00 p.m.: She appears to have one. Yay!

A very nice lady named Lori writes:

Hello Miss Heather!!

I have found a kitty roaming green st between Mcguiness and Manhattan. I rang bells looking for her home but no one knew her family. Right now I have my own fours cats and a friend that found herself homeless and her cat in my apt. So during the day she comes in the apt and at night is in the enclosed backyard. Not the ideal situation but I couldn’t leave her on the street. I am leaving for vacation in a week and need HELP finding her home or a foster… or maybe a new home. She is very sweet with a bit of cattitude but doesn’t even give me hard time getting in the carrier taking her from the yard to the apt at least twice a day… she does growl a bit while in it just to let me know she doesn’t love this plan! NO microchip and pretty sure female.

If any of you know to whom this lady belongs, please contact her good Samaritan at the above-listed phone number. Spread the word!

A person we’ll call “L” writes:

Hi,

This cat followed me home late last night and wouldn’t leave. It’s very friendly but was very hungry and dirty. It doesn’t have a collar only an old flee collar. It’s currently hanging out in our back courtyard with food and water. Would you mind posting it on your blog in case it’s owner is looking for it? Please don’t post my email address! The cat was spotted near Kent St and McGuinness when it started following me.

Thanks!

A fellow named Dave writes about the above-depicted fellow:

Miss Heather –

My neighbors found this little guy in front of the 7-11 on Manhattan Ave late Saturday night alone and crying.  Very friendly.

I recently emailed you about another cat entirely (turned out to be my neighbor’s cat who had escaped onto the fire escape).  I did get some responses as a result of your post however, and have reached out to them to see if they might be interested in fostering.  So far no luck.  In any case, hoping to reunite a family or find a temporary home.  If i didn’t already have two of my own fellas I would happily take this guy on myself.

Much thanks,

Dave

as an aside – I was walking home along Manhattan Ave on Saturday night, and popped into the deli on the corner of Manhattan and Nassau.  As I was inside, a bus screeched to a halt outside.  The driver jumped out of the bus, ran into the deli and loudly asked the purveyor – “Hey, you got Mentos?”

If anyone knows to whom this fellow belongs— or would like to provide this fellow the forever home he richly deserves— please contact Dave via email at dmblenk (at) gmail (dot) com

Otherwise, thank you Dave for the Mentos anecdote. That made my day!

A very nice and fellow cat) lady, Stephanie, writes:

I Heather! If you don’t mind, could you please share this? I found him in Sunnyside and hope someone is looking for him. I know you have significant reach. I’ll be posting fliers in the neighborhood tonight. THANK YOU!

I asked Stephanie for more information about this handsome fellow— and she delivered!

First seen Friday night on 40th Street between Queens Blvd and 43rd Avenue (“The Skillman side” of Queens Blvd). Was very friendly and hungry and ran right up to me for petting. Was hiding under cars, did not seem to be a local and it’s in front of my building, I’ve never seen him and I have mad street cat radar. The next morning, I went out to see if he was there and he was a little distressed under a car, skittish and crying a little. Again he came running straight up to me. I gave him some food and went back in for a carrier – when I returned he was nowhere to be found. I went out a few times in the day and couldn’t find him. As soon as it was dark I went outside to call for him and saw him on the sidewalk back arched in a near confrontation with a dog (thankfully on a leash). He ran into some bushes and I went over. I called him and he came right out and started talking to me and rubbing on me. I picked him up and put him in a carrier, he had no complaints – that is rare. he is not ear tipped and way to friendly for me to believe he lives on the street. He does not even know how to find a safe place to call home. There are ear tipped cats that live behind my building, but he did not seem to know what to do or where to go. I think he comes from a home and either got out/lost or was dumped by some bottom feeder. Black and white – young adult – talker – purrer – chirper – seems sweet, but is distressed in my bathroom with my jerk cat hissing at him from under the door. He’s eating and using the litter box and sitting in the window watching the birds. I will post fliers tonight and hope someone will claim him. It would be great if he had someone to hang out with that does not have cats to assess his personality, my cats do not accept adults, so he’s confined to my bathroom. I’m going to check in with my super to see if he’s ever seen him around and if he could foster him. He loves petting, but has swatted (no scratch/blood) at me twice. I hope this is just a nervous thing. It’s so hard to assess in a small space.

If anyone reading this knows to whom this fella belongs, please contact Stephanie via email at bigcitylittlekitty(at)yahoo(dot)com  —and spread the word! Thanks.
