Greenpoint Photos du Jour: Live From The Church Of The Ascension

If what yours truly saw (and smelled) earlier today was any indication, I’d say this year’s Thanksgiving “dinner” is proving to be a smashing success. John Ricco, the owner of Grandma Rose’s pizzeria and a host of volunteers volunteers worked 48 hours straight to ensure that 1,000 delicious meals were prepared to feed our community’s neediest. After the feasting commenced, Pastor Merz and John shared a few thoughts— and a prayer.

Thanksgiving comes to pass only once a year. The Church of the Ascension’s soup kitchen and food pantry need your help year ’round. Those who are interested in volunteering (or simply making a donation) can learn more about how you can lend a hand by sending an email to the above-listed email address. Thanks!

LAST GASP: A Birthday Wish

It does not take a rocket scientist to know times are tight for a lot of people in north Brooklyn. Even the Mister and I are feeling the pinch. But we have the presence of mind to know we are lucky. Very, VERY lucky. We have a roof over our heads; we have food (even if it means eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches went rent time comes around). We have it good. Much better than a lot of our neighbors and friends. Which brings me to the purpose of this post.

Jennifer Aull— one of the co-pastors of the Greenpoint Reformed Church and overall great gal— turns 21 tomorrow! Just kidding: she’s turning 22. Anyhoo: her birthday is tomorrow and her wish (via Facebook) is as follows:

I believe that the Greenpoint Church food pantry changes lives. I know it has changed mine. Please make a donation in honor of my birthday.

I can personally attest that the Greenpoint Food Pantry has changed lives. What’s more I want the compassionate ladies of the Greenpoint Reformed Church to continue serving our neediest! Give what you can Greenpointers. Every little bit counts!*

You can do so by clicking here.

**Yeah, I’m in trouble.

fleamarket

As I was coming home from picking up some groceries I encountered a woman putting up these fliers. I asked her for more information and she gladly obliged. Here’s the deal:

1. This upcoming Saturday, December 19, from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. the Greenpoint Reformed Church will be hosting a Holiday Flea Market.
2. To this end they need stuff to sell
3. You can help one of two ways:

  • You can donate items to the church (please note the flier state that  “no crap” will be accepted) or
  • You can contact the Greenpoint Reformed Church at the above telephone number about having a vending table!

Holiday Flea Market
Saturday, December 15, 2009; 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Greenpoint Reformed Church
136 Milton Street
Brooklyn, New York 11222

Think about it: Williamspoint’s most talented can earn a little money this holiday season. Shoppers can purchase gifts for their loved ones. All while benefiting a terrific cause: feeding north Brooklyn’s neediest. Everyone wins!
