As you can see in this photo (taken by Melissa Kerwin), someone has V.I.P. access to the “park” (and benches contained therein) at the end of Java Street!

From The New York Shitty Inbox: Help!
Heya Miss Heather,
I was hoping you could reach out to the community of cat lovers, as there is a family of kittens that I found (not my colony) and older cats that need trapping.
I don’t live in the area anymore, but come back every other day to feed the Green street cats and now the kittens, which are on West between Green and Huron. I’ve posted signs for help from the west st residents but have had only 1 response. It’s very disheartening.
I am not trained in TNR (trap, neuter and release) and don’t own a vehicle so I am looking for someone who does. I will help in any way, money or otherwise. The situation is serious. Everytime I come to feed the cats, I see a new kitten. There are about 12 now.
Again the cats are on West street between Green and Huron, behind a blue construction wall.
Anyone wishing to lend Laura a hand (or would that be paw) should contact her via email at: Laura (dot) Molins (at) showtime (dot) net
Thanks!

It would appear the feral colony at the end of India Street has a few new additions!

From The New York Shitty Inbox/North Brooklyn Community Group: Calling All Cat Lovers!
This item comes courtesy of my buddy (and fellow cat lover) Diana Gee. She writes:
I’m trying to help the caretaker for the feral cat colonies on India Street get some assistance. She sent me this via email: “Two feeders needed for cat colony on India Street, between West and Franklin. Due to the sudden death one of the colony care takers, I need to put a new schedule together. Help is urgently needed to feed this colony in the evenings. Feral colony consists of 6 cats, all very good animals. They eat between 7-8 P.M. Feeders would provide food and water. Must be reliable. Please email: vbondart (at) hotmail (dot) com”
Otherwise I have been advised that folks wishing to help our feral furry friends in other ways (For example, by doing TNR: trap, neuter and release or simply keeping an eye on our neighborhood’s feral colonies), should contact Diana Gee via email at: dianagee (at) nyc (dot) rr (dot) com. Thanks!
