Spotted On Clay Street: New York’s Bravest
Those of you who are wondering what the ruckus was this afternoon on Clay Street (between Manhattan Avenue and Franklin Street), apparently there was a fire in the basement of 50 Clay Street. I have no word as to whether or not anyone was hurt (although it seemed like everyone was okay), but this is as good as an opportunity as any to give a hat tip to our Bravest!

When one thinks of our Bravest, invariably one thinks of dogs. I mean, what would our bravest be without a canine presiding over the premises? Pretty damned lame if you ask me!
Thus I was pleased as punch when I walked by Engine Company 237 yesterday and spied the above pup performing his duty.
While not a Dalmatian (the breed most associated with the fire-fighting profession) you gotta admit “Mugsy” does have his own unique charm.
It was explained to me by a co-worker that Mugsy was relaxing after a much-enjoyed bath.
As the “face” of this operation I can assure you Mugsy takes his appearance quite seriously.
Especially when it comes to the ladies!

From The New York Shitty Inbox, Part II: St. Elias Revisited
Some of you might recall that last month I got word that the cross gracing St. Elias was showing signs of instability. Well, it has since been removed and a chap named Don has the scoop as to how this came to pass. He writes:
Miss Heather:First – Love your blog, I read it religiously! Just thought I’d send you a quick follow-up picture to one of your posts back on March 29th about the church on Kent Street (http://www.newyorkshitty.com/greenpoint-goodness/?p=57333). Turns out the FDNY was there on Sunday removing the cross.

Live From Rosemary’s Greenpoint Tavern: New York’s Bravest!
This morning yours truly got up bright and early. There was work to be done. Among other things I had to drop off a photo for developing, get a shipping container for another photo and drop off yet another photo to a friend who resides on Bedford Avenue. The latter-most task ended up being the highlight of my day. So far, anyway.
This is the vision which awaited me as I arrived at her apartment at 11:15 this morning: a gaggle of New York’s Bravest Cutest engaging in a little St. Paddy’s day merrymaking at Rosemary’s Greenpoint Tavern! Naturally I headed over without delay.
Me (to two of New York’s Bravest): Can I take your picture?
Bravest #1: You aren’t from the Post, are you?
Me: (excised*) NO!
(Bravest #1 and #2 line up to pose for yours truly)
Me: Okay, on the count of three. 1, 2, the Post Sucks!
Bravest #1 & #2: THE POST SUCKS!
This post goes out to the hardworking men and women of fair our city’s Fire Department. Happy St. Paddy’s Day!
