Greenpoint Photo Du Jour: It Has Begun!
That’s right, folks the guys behind the Greenpoint glory that is “El Blablazo” are rolling out the yearly holiday display. If last year’s creation and the number of boxes of supplies I saw are an indication, I’d say we’re in for a real treat. For those of you who have forgotten, here is some footage from last year. Happy July 4th From New York Shitty!
How else can a Garden Spotter give a nod to this, our fair country’s birthday, than to feature our very own El Blablazo tree (which has received some additional accouterments for just this occasion)? In addition what could possibly be more American than playing a little lotto while wearing an Appetite For Destruction t-shirt? Don’t everyone answer at once.
Regardless of how or where you decide to while away the day have a fun— and safe— holiday!

New York Shitty Day Ender: El Blablazo
Today as the Mister and I were walking to Animal Planet to purchase some cat food we noticed a flurry of activity at the El Blablazo tree. Something was clearly up, so we went in for a closer look.
I asked the man presiding over the scene if they were prepping for Puerto Rican Day (which is coming soon). He enthusiastically answered to the affirmative.
This is awesome.

‘Tis The Season: El Blablazo
When I received the above photographs from Christo this evening I knew I had to see what the guys behind El Blablazo were cooking up in person.
It is nothing short Greenpoint glorious!
The gentleman responsible for this masterpiece have assured me that they will resume decorating El Blablazo tomorrow. In addition, they told me anyone was welcome to come by and add decorations because this tree is (and I quote) “a public tree”!

Greenpoint Tree Pit Watch: 1074 Manhattan Avenue Kicks It Up A Notch
There’s no two ways about it: today was (and still is) a nasty, cold and wet day. This afternoon (after some serious procrastination) I bundled up and started my “commute” to the junk shop. Sort of. As I was crossing Manhattan Avenue I saw something in the corner of my eye that so piqued my curiousity I simply had to go in for a closer look.
The guys at 1074 Manhattan Avenue (who as some of you may recall were inspired by their neighbors at 1071 to create their own tree pit seating) have spiced things up with a fresh coat of gray paint, some red tinsel and a sign reading “EL BLABLAZO”. Naturally, I had to get to the bottom of this.
Me: Hey, what up with the tinsel and the sign?
Group of Dudes Hanging Out: ?
Me: I really like it— but my Spanish isn’t as good as it used to be. Could you tell me what this means?
GoDHO: (after some conferring one speaks) It means someone who talks too much. You know, as “blah blah”.
Me: Oh, I got you. That’s the story of my life.
GoDHO: (laughter) You see, this bench is a place for people to sit and talk…
Me: and sometimes they talk too much, right?
GoDHO: Exactly!
This, dear readers, is yet another reason why I live in the Garden Spot of the Universe.
