To celebrate National Feral Cat Day, we’re having a special adoption event Saturday, October 16th from 2 to 6 pm! Yes, we’ll have our usual gang of charming and adorable cats and kittens available for adoption but we’ll also be having a vegan bake sale for the humans! Proceeds will benefit our favorite mobile spay/neuter clinic, The Toby Project!

Had a surprise waiting at the door early one morning. A kitten in a basket. Dropped off some time before 6:30 a.m. Young and friendly. Grey with what could be a broken tail.

Naturally I intend to meet (and film) this little guy (or girl)— STAT!

Wanted to write you a quick note to get a fundraising event on your radar that we are putting on with the New York City Coalition Against Hunger this upcoming Saturday, October 16. Three years ago, a dear friend and community activist Craig Murphey was run down by a truck in Williamsburg as he was biking home. In order to carry on his work in the fight against hunger, the NYCCAH has established a fellowship in his name and each year, with the help of his friends and family, we put on a benefit to raise funds towards the Craig Murphey Fellowship.

This year the event will take place at Brooklyn Fire Proof (119 Ingraham St in Bushwick) from 6pm to 1am. There will be a Hummus “cook off” (hummus was Craig favorite food) sponsored by Whisk, live sets by local bands Sweet Tooth Nelson, Tyrhombus Rex, and Gators, followed by DJ a set by Finger on The Pulse. We will also be selling raffle tickets for $5 or $20 for 5 for a chance to win one of nearly 50 prizes donated by local bars, restaurants, artists and musicians.

You can view of list prizes by clicking here. But this event is not about the stuff— it is about honoring the memory of a very nice man who was cut down in the prime of his life by aiding a cause he strongly believed in: helping our city’s hungry. Check it out!

Hi Heather! My name is Megan Moncrief and I’m opening a new gallery and performance space called Brewer’s Mansion. Our home, for the time being, is 55 Waterbury Street (next door to Yummus Hummus, who are generously letting us use the space).

Our inaugural show, BEASTS, presents the viewer with a menagerie of beasts — some figurative, some abstract, some playful, some menacing (some both), some shadowy, some all too vivid. BEASTS features work by Isolde Chae-Lawrence, Michael Glen and Grayson Earle, Robyn A Frank, Erin Ikeler, Jenna Lee, Megan Moncrief, and John Munshour.

I’d love for you to come see our show — if you were willing to pass along the invitation to your readers, I’d be forever grateful! Our opening party is this Saturday, October 16th, and the show runs through October 30th. There will be wine and cookies and music by DJ Overgold. It’s going to be fun!
