From The New York Shitty Inbox: Presenting Shangri-La Studio
This most unexpected (and welcome) item comes courtesy of the peeps behind the defunct (and sorely missed) East Coast Aliens. They write:
East Coast Aliens are pleased to announce the grand opening of Shangri-La Studio. After the shock and sadness of having to shut down ECA studios last year we are delighted to pass the torch on to a new and better venue in Greenpoint. Shangri-La shares the same vision of providing professional artistic services and a center for art and culture. Shangri-La is bigger, stronger and faster but don’t take our word for it and come find out for yourself during the opening party next Saturday (see invite below). Promotional rates for the studios will be extended to film makers and photographers who attend the party. If you can’t make it next Saturday stop by during May to visit the studio and take advantage of the promotional opening rates. Mention East Coast Aliens in your inquiries and you will be treated as a return customer. We look forward to seeing you there.

What’s Up At 216 Franklin Street?
Although the “for rent” sign hasn’t come down I recently spied a flurry of activity at East Coast Alien’s former space at 216 Franklin Street. Curious to see what’s up I took a sneak peek.
By all appearances it looks like they are converting this space into an eating and drinking establishment (note the bar behind the garbage can in the above photograph) but I have found nothing whatsoever in the way of liquor license or Department of Buildings applications to bear this out.
Anyone out there have the scoop as to what is going on at 216 Franklin? If so please share via the comments. Thanks!

TODAY: Going Out Of Business Sale
Last night I finally received a disappointing confirmation of something I had suspected for a month: East Coast Aliens is going out of business. Today from 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. they will be hosting a “Huge Blow Out Sale” featuring items such as sound equipment, furniture, art/silk screening supplies and much, much more. If you’re looking for a bargain (let’s face it, art supplies are not cheap) check it out.
