Spotted At McCarren Park: The Bieberbus

I see a number of interesting things during my peregrinations around north Brooklyn. These discoveries in large part constitute the content of this site. So you can imagine my interest when I stumbled upon the above pink, gold and lavender bus yesterday afternoon on Driggs Avenue. The first question that came to my mind was:

Does someone live in this?

The answer would appear to be yes!

What’s more, these folks appear to be book worms. But I suppose I should get back to why I call this very special mobile home the “Beiberbus”.

They loves them some Justin Beiber! Exactly why, I do not know. I fail to see the appeal. Then again, I am not a teenage girl. Much less one that resides in a pink, lavender and gold air conditioned school bus.

Oh yeah, they also like kitties!

From The New York Shitty Inbox, Part III: St. Stan’s To Be Renovated?

This item comes from a tipster who would like to remain anonymous. He/she writes:

via NEIGHBORHOOD SOURCES

August 20, 2010

“The church has been an eyesore for many years, and it looks like they finally raised enough money to spruce it up a little.” says Greenpoint resident, Marek Borkowski.

Local sources are claiming that the St. Stanislaus Kostka cathedral in Greenpoint will undergo significant renovations to its exterior beginning in early November, 2010. The renovations are meant to bring the current facade more in line with neighborhood aesthetic standards, as well as serve to hopefully attract a younger crop of parishioners.

The St. Stanislaus Kostka cathedral, erected in 1896, is also rumored to be rebranded as “The Stan.”

What can we expect, you ask? Well, if the renderings my intrepid tipster has gotten his (her?) hands on are any indication, we are in for something very special. Without further ado, here they are!

A Donia Cafe Update: Not So Fast…

August 14, 2010 ·
Filed under: 11222, Greenpoint, Greenpoint Brooklyn, Greenpoint Magic

Today I swung by Donia Cafe to see if it was— as a commenter recently indicated— in fact, open for business. First up, the bad news:

Donia Cafe is not open— just yet. But I noticed signs of activity and knocked on the door. A very nice man (who I presume to be the owner) answered. I asked him when they were slated to open. Now the good news: he said Donia will open this upcoming Tuesday— and was nice enough to give me a menu (which you can get a sneak peek of by clicking here)!

From The New York Shitty Inbox: An Easy Way To Help Our Local Library

This item comes from a lady named Meg. She writes:

Hi Heather,

I’m one of the volunteers for the Greenpoint Friends Group.  You’ve been such a big supporter of the Greenpoint Library and the Greenpoint Friends Group, I was hoping you could spread the word about the opportunity to donate money to the group at Buffalo Exchange with their “Tokens for Bags” program.  If you don’t take a bag for your purchase, you get a token to to donate 5 cents towards a choice of charities.  And right now the Greenpoint Friends Group is one of the charities!

This is very good news indeed!
