Reader Contribution Du Jour: FYI
Those of you who may be harboring the notion of checking out the fire (at least what is left of it) today, don’t bother: security has been hired. The above fellow, apparently. NOTE: Stefano Giovannini (whose photo this is) presented his city-issued press pass to the police. They told him to leave. So there have you.
Reader Contribution Du Jour: Shots From Today’s Fire At Citistorage
An immensely talented and all-around nice guy, Stefano Giovannini, braved the cold and took some wonderful photos of our city’s Bravest fighting what is apparently now a seven alarm fire. Do take a moment to peruse his Flickr set here. They are not only lovely (if one can call such subject matter that) but are an excellent testement to the hard work and dedication of our firefighters.

In this case (as I learned) quite a lot.
Conversely, the much-publicized concerts at “Williamsburg Park” (AKA: the concrete lot adjacent to CitiStorage) are set to commence tomorrow. As you can see the stage is facing “inland”. Start drafting your 311 noise complaints now, north Brooklynites!
My advice:
- Refrain from pointing out that Counting Crows sucks.
- Rather, note that “OSA Presents” has been admonished not to direct the stage toward the community whose parks ostensibly benefit from these concerts— and yet they have seen fit to do so again.
- Better yet: just call HellTek!

Per an anonymous tipster:
If the name Norm Brodsky seems familiar, gentle readers, here’s why:
- He was a founding member of Open Space Alliance.
- He owns the CitiStorage storage facility which isĀ
a colossal cash outblocking our brave march towards open space in Greenpoint. To the amount of $200,000,000 if Rami Metal is to be believed (skip to 8:03 and hear his words for yourself)
And three pillars of our community; Adam Perlmutter, Steve Hindy (Brooklyn Brewery) and Evan Thies (Open Space Alliance members and former Community Board 1 members all) are hosting a rally for Mr. Squadron at his home (READ: CitiStorage)!

From The New York Shitty Inbox: Kite Day Cometh!
This item was brought to my attention by my buddy Phil DePaolo. He writes:
A personal note. Events like this are vital to supplement cuts in funding to P.S 132. It is also a visually stunning event. Its also a great opportunity to meet many parents from all over the City who are very angry with the proposed cuts to our schools…
This upcoming Saturday, June 5, starting at noon the P.T.A. of PS 132 will be hosting Kite Day on the premises of CitiStorage. Having attended this event in the past (albeit at McCarren Park) I can attest that it is wonderful way to enjoy a sunny summer afternoon. And hey, you’ll be supporting a great cause: north Brooklyn’s youth. Check it out!
