From The New York Shitty Inbox, Part II: St. Elias Revisited
Some of you might recall that last month I got word that the cross gracing St. Elias was showing signs of instability. Well, it has since been removed and a chap named Don has the scoop as to how this came to pass. He writes:
Miss Heather:First – Love your blog, I read it religiously! Just thought I’d send you a quick follow-up picture to one of your posts back on March 29th about the church on Kent Street (http://www.newyorkshitty.com/greenpoint-goodness/?p=57333). Turns out the FDNY was there on Sunday removing the cross.

New York Shitty Slide Show du Jour: Be It Ever So Humble…
Ever since the Mister and I learned why there are eight campers gracing the Garden Spot’s waterfront we have not been able to get it out of our collective minds. Finally we capitulated this afternoon and paid this ad hoc trailer park a visit. Good news: the number of campers is holding steady at eight. Bad news: one shows sign of, um, habitation. Enjoy!

Those of you, gentle Greenpoint readers, who have been wondering (as I have) why there are (at last count) eight trailers gracing our waterfront your search is over: Aaron Short of The Brooklyn Paper has the answer! And man oh Manischewitz is it a doozy. Follows is a teaser from his tome:
…About 25 plaid-clad pastorals hitched their trailers to a dream in a former nut-roasting factory on Meserole Street in 2009 — paying a mere $600 a month for rent and utilities.
The collective’s creatives were drawn to the vehicle village’s video editing and painting studios, wood and ceramic shops, free-range chicken farm, fish pond, and of course, the BBQ.
But the complaints of neighbors who didn’t understand country living — and disliked the smell of propane — forced the trailers to move to a back yard leased by Kings near Waterbury Street…
Oh, it gets better alright…
Reading is believing, folks.
UPDATE, 4:51 p.m.: Yours truly and the Mister went to India Street to check in on our trailer park with a view. It would appear one of these campers has been commandeered by our local vagrants. Mere breaking and entry or a cutting edge counter-proposal to the homeless shelter slated for 400 McGuinness Boulevard? I’ll let you, dear readers, make the call!

Daily Bloomblight: 365 – 367 Union Avenue
It would appear that despite seemingly being stalled and having a partial Stop Work Order* this Scarano Special has a tenant.
Among other things.

*the reason for which is so exquisite it simply must be shared here.
Interesting factoid: this troubled property has netted five Stop Work Orders to date.
Great Moments In Abjectecture: Conselyea Street

If all the suits Rodney Dangerfield wore during his career could be amalgamated into a building this specimen, which hails from 14 Conselyea Street, would be the end product. It should also be noted that this rather diminutive structure (by Williamsburg standards, anyway) appears to have racked up an impressive five Stop Work Orders over the last three years. And if you are wondering about the fence: no, it is not supposed to look like that.

Anyone need a toilet seat?

P.S.: Meanwhile at 32 India Street…
Same song, different verse. And Greenpoint knows the tune all too well.
Daily Bloomblight: Fallen Once Again

This vision hails from a perennial New York Shitty favorite: 32 India Street. Follows are some of yours truly’s favorite posts featuring this property:
- September 12, 2010: fallen section of fence with soiled manties
- May 14, 2010: fallen fence with assorted detritus along with other neighboring eye sores
- March 16, 2010: another section of fallen fence
- January 20, 2009: And of course the best carbecque EVER
I wonder what the ferry goers and pier patrons will think of passing by this? I suppose we’ll find out soon enough.
