Great Moments In Real Estate Marketing: Hardcore Luxury

When I saw this corker at the corner of Bedford Avenue and North 6 Street today I simply had to document it. As soon as I got home I brought it to the Mister’s attention. I don’t care if he took a personal day today or not: this is important.

This woman simply does not have enough tattoos. Although the one she does have— which looks like it was selected and possibly executed under the influence of narcotics— or possibly in jail— is a good start.

I stated, to get the ball rolling.

She went somewhere very nice that tattoo. I have no doubt she paid a lot of money to make it look like she got it in prison.

The Mister countered.

“Agreed” I said and went on to opine:

There are a number of things wrong with this ad now that I have really looked at it. For starters, why isn’t someone sitting at the table surrounded by empty cans of PBR and Colt 45 cutting up a suspicious white substance with a gold card? Maybe they’re doing it on the granite counter tops in the bathroom instead?

To wit the Mister replied:

What I want to know is where’s the scraggly haired son of bitch passed out on the couch? You know, the one she’s “dating”* to piss her dad off?

I could not have put it better myself. Sorry Edge PR hacks, but until you make the changes we have just outlined (oh yeah, throw in some piercings while you’re at it) this advertisement is a colossal fail.

Curiously enough “litter strewn sidewalks” did not make the cut. Hmm…

Only on Bedford Avenue would a “moving company” advertisement look like a personals ad. What I am particularly curious about is the “pricing flexible depending on circumstances” aspect of this offer . If anyone elects to hire these upstarts I would be very grateful if you would tender a full review of their services to yours truly. Including how well “Frankie” can dance.

Spotted On Bedford Avenue: Absolut Brooklyn

It has come to my attention that the folks at Brownstoner have been speculating as to where the photograph for this heavily Photoshopped advertisement (as seen here gracing the Crosstown Local) was taken. Well, today dear readers, I am pleased to announce I have the answer!

I spied this chap painting an advertisement for this “Spike Lee Collaboration” this afternoon on Bedford Avenue. I struck up a conversation with him. I knew exactly how to break the ice.

Excuse me, but are you going to paint in the street numbers for these two houses?

I inquired.

I don’t know. The type is awfully small.

He replied, while looking at the print out he was working from.

Well, the one on the left is “400” and the one on the right is “387”.

I helpfully offered.

Did you work on this campaign?

He asked.

“No I didn’t”, I replied and went on to opine:

This discrepancy was brought to my attention while waiting for the G train. Someone circled the addresses and wrote “WHAT”  in all caps. When one has to wait 15-20 minutes on a subway platform he (or she) tends to notice such things. In any case you might want to fix that. May I suggest you make the building on the right “398”?

My new friend found this tremendously entertaining and went on the spill the beans about the provenance/fabrication of this image:

  1. The block in question is located in Crown Heights.
  2. The buildings (some of them anyway, including “387”) were originally three stories in height. They were shaved down to two so more sky would be visible.
  3. All the trees were added via Photoshop.

So there have you.

It’s refreshing to see that our Parks Administrator/”Parks Advocate” is taking neighborhood complaints about the lack of bathrooms at Barge Park (and elsewhere) seriously. I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised by this. After all, this is the same person who saw fit not to notify the “Friends Of” group for Barge Park that this concert was going to be conducted at the park they represent. When queried about this her answer was (and I quote) they “had a lot on their plate”. Obviously.

(Or, Looking Good In The Neighborhood!)

I’ve noticed a number of changes at Greenpoint’s very own Automotive High School over the years. First there were musicals (Guys & Dolls). Last year they started a garden. That was pretty cool— but it is nothing in comparison to what they have created this year!

Raised beds with every imaginable herb, fruit and vegetable imaginable. Pumpkins, tomatoes, sage; you name it!

What I particularly adored was the furniture these youths created to accompany this much-needed (re)greening of Greenpoint. The above bench reads: AUTOHS.

And a rocker fit for a queen.

Or perhaps a king? In any case I cannot do justice to what this creation. See it for yourself!
