To close on the subject of mattresses always exercise caution when purchasing one. In New York State it is legal to sell “reconditioned” mattresses, e.g.; used mattresses that purport to be “sanitized” for re-use. I use the word “purport” because they quite often are not. Reconditioned mattresses are required by law to have a yellow tag— but unfortunately often do not. It should also be noted that reconditioning isn’t a guarantee it won’t harbor a few unwanted guests, if you know what I mean.If the price of that mattress (or box springs) seem to be too good to be true, it probably is.

The next time you think about taking home that old couch or buying a “used” mattress think of this. Lou Sorkin was present at the now infamous HPD bed bug workshop in Greenpoint last May. Not only does this gent have a rather extensive knowledge of how bedbugs breed but he also has his own bed bug farm! That’s dedication folks.

One would think given the nature of what they’re exterminating the Bed Bug King would be a little more low key. I guess not. Having the “Bed Bug Mobile” parked in front of one’s digs has got to be more than little embarrassing. Ouch.

I encountered the above mattress yesterday evening on Greenpoint Avenue. Upon closer inspection I learned this item has some “added-value” you’re probably not going to get from the likes of 1-800-Mattress, Macy’s or even IKEA.
