LAST GASP: Much Ado About Animals!
Filed under: 11211, 11222, Crazy Cat Lady, East Williamsburg, East Williamsburg Brooklyn, Greenpoint, Greenpoint Brooklyn, Greenpoint Magic, Manhattan, Urban Fur, Williamsburg, Williamsburg Brooklyn
Starting tomorrow there will be a number of animal-related events in Williamsburg and beyond. Here they are in chronological order:
Tomorrow, March 5, 2010 starting at 10:00 p.m. New York City’s Animal Shelter Map, Trails to Tails will be unveiled on the steps of City Hall. A couple of north Brooklyn institutions will be present including BARC and our very own Assemblyman, the ubiquitous Joe Lentol! I have it on very good intelligence that these maps are pretty darned neat. If you have the time and/or ability to swing by, check it out! If nothing else, it will be an excellent opportunity to inquire of our fair Mayor as to why the Center for Animal Care & Control is so destitute they are soliciting donations for food.

Next up, North Brooklyn Cats will be having an adoption event at Muddy Paws Saturday, March 6 from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. Among the fetching felines to be featured are:
Noah…
and his sister Lilith
Wallaby…
and many, many more. In closing, I would like to point out that a good friend of mine recently adopted a rescue from this organization. His name is Bug (!) and you can see pictures of him enjoy his life of luxury (at least inasmuch as his big sis permits) by clicking here.

Last up, Greenpoint’s very own Empty Cages Collective will be having an adoption event this upcoming Sunday, March 7 starting at at 12:30 p.m. at PS9 Pet Supply. As some of you might recall these folks had an event last month at 8 of Swords Tattoo. I later learned they received no less than four adoption applications and a generous $100 donation from a New York Shitty reader. Me-OW!

New York Shitty Day Starter: F*ck Football, Give Me Pussy!
Filed under: 11211, 11222, Crazy Cat Lady, Greenpoint, Greenpoint Brooklyn, Greenpoint Magic, Williamsburg, Williamsburg Brooklyn
Today is one of my favorite days of the year: Super Bowl Sunday. No, I’m not preparing copious amounts of crap food and securing large quantities of beer to consume while “watching the game”. I like Super Bowl Sunday because a great many people are engaged in the aforementioned activities and I can walk the streets of my fair neighborhood in solitude. I like my “alone time”.
I also like cats. If you like cats and don’t particularly care about football why not swing by PS9 tomorrow and meet a few of north Brooklyn’s finest felines?
Today from 12:30 – 5:30 p.m. Greenpoint’s very own Empty Cages Collective will be hosting an adoption event there!

In closing, last night I had the pleasure of accompanying a good buddy of mine to meet a trio of very winsome Bronx kittens who were rescued from a kill shelter on New Year’s Eve.
Meet Taittinger…
and his brother Dom. As you can see it’s almost impossible to tell the difference between them!
They are very curious kittens…
and for this reason they, along with their sis Cristal (as seen above), were almost impossible to film!
Especially when she claimed my Kittycam as her own!
Until Taittinger took an interest in a bowl of pistachios. The Mister encouraged this behavior (hey, for once he wasn’t encouraging cats to trash our living room) and well, the rest is what it is…
Faster pussycat! Kill! Kill!
Anyone interested in adopting Dom, Tate or Cristal should contact the ladies of North Brooklyn Cats via flickr by clicking here and/or here.

TOMORROW: Santa Claus At PS9!
This item comes courtesy of my friends at the McCarren Dog Run. Tomorrow, December 5, from 12:00 – 6:00 p.m. you can have your furkids photographed with Santa Claus — or would that be Claws? In any case, two 4 x6 inch prints will set you back a mere $20.00. Not a bad deal at all!

I don’t know about you, but I for one hope Edie the hamster will swing by and tell Santa what she wants for Christmas. She’s been a very good girl this year!

TOMORROW: Cat & Kitten Adoption Event
Filed under: 11211, 11222, Crazy Cat Lady, Greenpoint, Greenpoint Brooklyn, Greenpoint Magic, Williamsburg, Williamsburg Brooklyn
This morning I awakened to discover that Chez Shitty has neither heat nor hot water. I was able to deduce the latter by the quantity of kitties cuddled up against me for warmth. I learned the latter via the Mister who made this discovery the hard way. Lucky him.
I mention this anecdote because cat ownership isn’t just about a lesson in humility and being a heat source: it is also about companionship. On that note, tomorrow November 7, 2009 starting at noon Empty Cages Collective will be having an cat and kitten adoption event at Williamsburg’s own PS9!
If you have been mulling over sharing your bed with a furry companion— or simply want to swing by, say hi and perhaps leave a donation— why not swing by PS9 tomorrow? They’ll be happy to see you!

SUNDAY: A Fundraiser For A Very Worthy Cause
Filed under: 11211, 11222, Greenpoint, Greenpoint Brooklyn, Greenpoint Magic, Williamsburg, Williamsburg Brooklyn
Dog people, dog lovers and McCarren Park dog run patrons take note: this Sunday, September 27, 2009 the folks of the McCarren Dog Run Association will hosting a benefit, “Drinking For Dogs”, at PS9 starting at 6:30 p.m. The purpose of this event is very simple: to raise funds for a much-needed “dig out” and improvements to the dog run’s drainage system. The McCarren Dog Run is without argument the most trafficked dog run in north Brooklyn. Ironically enough, it is also the one most in need of repair.
This is our dog run folks. We can upgrade it before the numerous condos, nondos and luxury apartments around it reach completion (thus adding many, many more users) or we can wait and watch it further deteriorate. The choice is ours. For this reason I advise any and all dog owners— especially those who use the McCarren Dog Run— they “regulars” or otherwise— to attend this event. Or at the very least make a donation. The latter can be done by clicking here.
Drinking For Dogs
September 27, 2009 starting at 6:30 p.m.
Cost: $10.00 per ticket which can be purchased by clicking here.

Those who are interested in learning more about “Drinking For Dogs” can do so by pointing and clicking their way to the McCarren Dog Run’s Facebook announcement or by checking out their web site.
Thanks!

TOMORROW: Adoptable Cuties At PS 9
By all reports it looks like it is going to be a beautiful weekend here in north Brooklyn. After (or perhaps before) indulging in some beer and goulash goodness in Greenpoint why not make a detour to PS9 Pet Supply and make the acquaintance of some of the lovely felines of Empty Cages Collective— like sweet little lass in the following video. Her name is Jo Jo, she is six months old and purrrfectly healthy. She would very much like to have a “forever home” to hang her hat. How about yours?
