New York Shitty Day Ender: From The New York Shitty Inbox

A lass named Gina writes:

Dear Miss Heather,

I am a Brooklyn-based photographer (and long-time reader of New York Shitty). I’m having a show on June 8th, exhibiting my images of McCarren Park Pool before the the renovation. The images capture the decaying pool after 28 years of abandonment. I chose to show the photos the same month that the pool is re-opening to draw attention to the structure’s interaction with the changing neighborhood.

I have included a press release as well as a description of photographic series.  I think it would make a great post on  your site!

The opening is June 8th at the One Well in Greenpoint (and it’s free!).

Please let me know if you have any questions.

If the above sneak peek is any indication, I’d say we’re in for a treat. Check it out!

Today was the second day this— the newest business to open its doors in the Garden Spot— has been open. I took a few moments to chat with the very nice lass behind this “eco chic home and body boutique”: Kerry Jones. Not only is she a very nice lady, but I for one was rather excited when she mentioned she was interested in featuring art work from local artists! Follows is a review of what The One Well has to offer. Enjoy!

The recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan has caused unimaginable damage, but despite the distance we can still aid Japan with help of the New York community. As artists and designers, the organizers of ART LOVE JAPAN were inspired to put together a creative event that could benefit those in need in Japan while also promoting a philanthropic spirit in the neighborhood. At this 3 day event, works donated by artists and designers will be sold for $20 a piece on a first come, first served basis. All proceeds will go towards charities supporting earthquake victims in Japan. Event and charity details are available at www.artlovejapan.com.

ART LOVE JAPAN kicks off on Friday, April 8th with an opening party featuring live music by SHIV HURRAH and POW WOW! The event closes on Sunday, the 10th with a performance by THE BEETS. Asahi Beer, The Natural Wine Company, and Big Tree Bottles have generously provided refreshments for the event. We hope you can come and join us to support Japan!

Thank you.

Today as I was walking past the long-vacant store front at 165 Greenpoint Avenue I was surprised— pleasantly, I will add— to see a gallery is moving in.

Not only is there work in the window, but they are accepting submissions for both a small works group show and a Holiday Market!

Note: the deadline for submissions to the craft fair is November 22nd and the group show is November 24th! You can learn more about In Rivers (and download their submission application) by clicking here.
