A person we’ll call “K” writes:
Hi Miss Heather,
Can’t find out from anyplace on-line- CALYER our fave eatery is gone, replaced by some hipster bar-b-q place- it happened in a matter of a few weeks! No signs, no warnings (that we heard) –
We can stop by Anella’s (same owners I believe) and ask about it, but thought just maybe you might have heard something…
Hope at least they have merely moved, not ceased operations… (though I guess they will never be called “CALYER”).
What a loss. The place not only had amazing food, it felt-and-looked cool inside. Don’t get it, thought they were doing well.
By all appearances it would appear Jimmy’s Diner has opened a second location. To my knowledge this is the second such restaurant the owners have divested of in the last six months or so. The other being of course being Bellwether. Hmm…

P.S.: While we are on the subject of Greenpoint eateries, it would appear Papasito’s has changed hands as well. This would explain a number of things including:
- Why only cash is being accepted presently.
- The lack of noise on Cinco De Mayo.
- A noticeable change/shift in clientele.
Interesting…

Laura Hofmann (who forwarded me the above item) writes:
Hi Heather!
I am so happy that this rally is taking place. After the presentation that Park Tower Group and others gave to Community Board 1, this rally seems more important than ever. Clearly, city officials and developers aren’t done adding to this already over burdened, over developing waterfront. The WIlliamsburg/Greenpiont community continues to be slammed. The bottom of the flyer says it all, “broken promises”, “ongoing displacement”, “lack of affordable housing”. The Williamsburg/Greenpoint community needs to act and speak up together again. We need to let city officials know that their affordable housing plan isn’t affordable at all and that we won’t tolerate any more lies. You know the saying, “The squeaky wheel gets the grease”. If this community is going to achieve anything, it has to come out in numbers just like it did against the TGE power plant. When Williamsburg & Greenpoint came out together in numbers, we won…
Show up and speak up, North Brooklynites!

Not only is the commodification of the borough of Kings continuing, but as I learned yesterday apparently its contents require a curator. You learn something new everyday…

Not only is the teddy still there (albeit with what appears to be a tear cascading down his fuzzy mug), but he is presently sporting some arm bands in the manner of “repurposed” gaskets. Snazzy!
