LOST LovE!

Lost Love. 🙁 Last seen at 11:22 AM Sunday July 5th on N 8th near Roebling Street.

You were my fireworks on the 4th of July and you changed the way I will hear church bells forever! If this finds you please find me since I am a total moron and didn’t give you my number or get yours and I would love to see you again.

How can I not shake the suspicion this is going to end with wedding bells…

or a restraining order?

On Friday, July 3, 2009 I wrote (in this post):

Some of you probably know ground has been broken for the new soccer field which will grace Bushwick Inlet Park. What you probably do not know is (per a most curious anonymous source) I have been told there will be a ribbon cutting ceremony with none other than our fair Mayor as well as “other elected officials and Commissioner Benepe” this upcoming Monday, July 6, 2009! The festivities will kick off at either 9:00 or 10:00 a.m. (I am awaiting confirmation for all of this— if/when I get a firm time and date I will post them here.)

Well kids, I have a confirm on the time: between 10:00 and 11:00 a.m.

Monday, July 6, 2009
Time: 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. (closer to 11:00)

Why not swing by and see the select few who were invited to this most auspicious event?

Hi Miss Heather –

Saw the plume erupt just as the regular fire works were lighting up on the Hudson from my friend’s roof and started to count off the blocks north of Metropolitan. Apparently some hipster douchebags were setting off rocket fireworks on Wythe and N.9th and one went into the sawdust hopper of Rosenwach Water Tank. Way to go douchebags! Another Williamsburg institution ruined!!

Cops and Fire Dept are investigating, with probable arrest and incarceration coming soon since it sounds like alot of people know who did it and knowing the wburg gossip train, the city should know within a few more hours once loose lips sink somebody’s yacht. And probably somebody is gonna get their ass beat too, because those guys are working stiffs, and now probably a good dozen of them are out of a job. Thanks a lot douchebags!!

“Oh, we’re sorry, we’re sorry!”

I’m friggin pissed off.

So there have you. For more information check out Brooklyn11211’s update.

As you can see the lack of fireworks on the East River did nothing whatsoever to dampen the festivities here in North Brooklyn. If anything, things were much more lively than usual. During my brief sojourn to points Green and beyond I spied a number of block parties, a fist fight on Bedford Avenue and a rather large fire on Kent Avenue (Anyone out there know what that was about? There were fire trucks FOR BLOCKS*). But the highlight or nadir (this is contingent on one’s musical tastes) of the evening was to be found on my journey home: a spontaneous Michael Jackson dance-a-thon was in effect on Franklin Street.

Speaking as someone who was not and is not a fan of the King of Pop even I have to confess: it was pretty impressive.

Miss Heather

*Mystery solved! See the comments for the 411. Otherwise I fixed the dead link regarding the fist fight on Bedford Avenue. Was in a hurry to get out of the house this morning!

Or not.

Why hasn’t this event been announced to the general public, you ask? That’s an excellent question! Why not pop by on Monday and ask Mayor Mike and/or Mr. Benepe in person?

Miss Heather

*Or would that be WNYC Transmitter Park? As you can see in the following photographs (taken at 7:30 this evening) the stage is being set for something to go down there. Soon.

Some of you may or may know that this morning John Liu, who is running against David Yassky for City Comptroller, was on Bedford Avenue meeting and greeting morning commuters. Well, Mr. Yassky decided he too should canvass this thoroughfare (being as it IS in his City Council district) and invited a handful of his buddies to join him. The reception he received was chilly to say the least:

David: Hi, my name is David Yassky and I’m running for City Comptroller.
Woman: Did you vote for a 3rd term?
David: No, I’m not running for a 3rd term.
Woman: But you voted to extend term limits.
David: Yes, I did…
Woman: It’s a terrible idea…
David: Well, I disagree with you…
Woman: …and I hope it comes back to haunt you.
David: Shrugs meekly. Well…

I encourage each and every one of you to point and click your way over to A Short Story (from which the previous priceless exchange hails) for the full scoop. Good stuff!

Lest the relative silence today on New York Shitty has not been an indication I am kicking off this 4th of July weekend early. Over the next several days I will be posting— albeit not as prolifically as usual. (Hey, even I need to take a vacation once in a while!) The previous having been written, here’s a cavalcade of street art to get the party rolling. Enjoy!

New York Shitty Day Ender: Karl Gets A Pair

04.nfourthKEVINWALSH(…And Then Some!)

On June 29, 2009 my buddy Kevin of Forgotten NY wrote in his latest “slice” entitled The Four Corners of North 4th:

This new condo on the NW corner of Driggs Avenue and N. 4th is Nforth by archiect Karl Fischer, who has worked extensively in Montreal and NYC. He has perpetrated a traves … er, muscled the old LIRR/Pennsy Powerhouse in Hunters Point into residential units and has also designed Schaefer Landing on the site of the old Schaefer brewery on Kent Avenue.

I actually like the building — it features very large windows — a trend in residential architecture — and a throwback look with actual brickface…

I have to respectfully disagree with my colleague: this building, along with its numerous (and seemingly exponentially proliferating) siblings is simply awful. What’s more, I learned today I am not the only one who harbors this sentiment.

nforthpenises

At a casual glance I counted at least twenty penises (penii?) gracing this edifice. Whoever was responsible for this amusing (and it should be noted, NON-permanent) act of vandalism didn’t stop at NForth either: the Karl Fischer next door got four of its own.

From The New York Shitty Inbox: An Ugly Incident At Bedford Avenue

July 1, 2009 ·

thumbJASONWAGNERA number of you, dear readers, have brought this story to my attention. For those of you who are not in the know, a rather ugly arrest recently came to pass at the Bedford Avenue stop of the L train involving— get this— a PUG. Although there is certainly more to the story than what has come to light, I strongly encourage each and every one you to read Gothamist’s coverage (they have since added some photographs of the incident, such as the one to the left, which was taken by Jason Wagner). One word: DISGUSTING.
