LAST GASP: A Moment of Williamsburg Zen
While most of you were probably off work and having fun today I was busy. VERY BUSY. I will probably continue to be busy well into the night. I need relief. Preferably comic relief. Thanks to Meredith I got it.
She writes:
It is a fishing stringer (heavy duty) , a red baron plastic airplane, a set of bubba teeth, a wise man, and a stuffed toy hung on a preexisting painting. It’s pretty great.
Whenever someone evokes “Bubba teeth” I think about the time my buddy Rachael went to the Mark Bar sporting a set. As she was talking to a fellow bar patron they fell out of her mouth and into her drink. Without a second thought she retrieved them and stuck them back into her mouth. Much to the other woman’s dismay.
Thanks Meredith. I needed this!

New York Shitty Day Ender: Pale Rider
When I hear the words “Pale Rider” I think of Clint Eastwood. I do not think of Volvos. Much less Volvos parked on Bedford Avenue. I suppose that’s Williamsburg for you.

Williamsburg Photo Du Jour: MLK Day Special
In observance of (what is left of) Martin Luther King Day I present to you this distressed but still quite lovely work of street art. The artist is Dain and it can be found on Driggs Avenue.

New York Shitty Day Starter: The OSA Trilogy Part 2
Filed under: 11206, 11211, 11222, 11231, Bushwick, Bushwick Brooklyn, East Williamsburg, East Williamsburg Brooklyn, Greenpoint, Greenpoint Brooklyn, Greenpoint Magic, Williamsburg, Williamsburg Brooklyn
It’s dull as dishwater— unless you paid attention to the last segment. Wherein I stated “OSA Presents Inc.” was created by:
…certain members of the Board of Directors of OSA…
and noted the org in question was headquartered at 79 North 11 Street: the Brooklyn Brewery. OSA Presents Inc. was created without “Community Committee’s” knowledge. It was OSA’s ostensible attempt at claiming community feedback/input. If the buzz I have heard is correct a great many people were unaware about OSA Presents Inc. Including so-called “board members”. Which is why I find this filing for an extension so interesting.
New York Shitty Analysis: When an organization takes this long to file a tax return (I hail from a bloodline plagued by accountants) it makes me wonder. This is what happens when millionaires, people with monetary interests and the “powers that be” which are beholden to them (Mayor Bloomberg et. al.) dictate what is in the best interests of north Brooklyn. Their interests.

Quicklink: The Real Williamsburg
Remember Very Small Array, the peeps who brought us a map of Greenpoint’s many neighborhoods, including— but by no means limited to: Sewagetown, Garbagetown and North Vinyl Siding? Well, even if you don’t, they have done it again: a map of what constitutes “Williamsburg” per Craigslist apartment advertisements! Greenpointers will be delighted to know Eagle Street does in fact constitute Williamsburg. Bushwickians and Bed-Stuyers will be edified to know Halsey Street makes the grade as well!
Click here to behold the hilarity yourself. I command you.

FOUND: Tarpitter
Ever had one of those moments when you find yourself saying:
Awww, that’s really sweet!
This afternoon I had such a moment. At the behest of Bedford Avenue of all places.
I found this little critter outside of Spoonbill & Sugartown Booksellers.
Noticing he (?) was affixed with Velcro, I grabbed him. He now resides at Chez Shitty in beautiful Greenpoint, Brooklyn.
Awww, that’s really sweet!
My curiousity aroused, I checked out the url inscribed on the back without delay. My find would appear to be part of a greater project by an artist in Great Britain. He (?) leaves these diminutive paintings— “Hiders” as he calls them— for people to find.
Thank you, Tarpitter critter-maker! Your serendipitous gift made my day. You can rest assured this little guy has found a very good home…
…on my desk next to the Mister’s vitamin supplements!
