This comes courtesy of Artineh Havan, who heads the Grand Street Business Improvement District. She writes:
Dear Miss Heather,
I hope that you are well. We would greatly appreciate it if you could include a public service announcement about our electronics recycling event (in partnership with the Lower East Side Ecology Center) on Grand Street between Graham Avenue and Humboldt Street this Saturday, April 5th from 10 am to 4 pm, rain or shine.
As you know, if put in the trash, these items end up in landfills, leaching toxins into our ground water.
A list of acceptable working and nonworking electronics is below or here:
• Computers (laptops & desktops, servers, mainframes)
• Monitors
• Printers, scanners, fax-machines, copiers
• Network devices (routers, hubs, modems, etc.)
• Peripherals (keyboards, mice, cables, cords, chargers, etc.)
• Tablets and E-readers
• Components (hard drives, CD-ROMs, circuit boards, power supplies, etc.)
• TVs, VCRs, DVRs, & DVD Players
• Digital Converter Boxes, Cable/Satellite Receivers
• Portable music players
• Audio-visual equipment
• Video-games
• Cell phones, pagers, PDAs
• Telecommunication (phones, answering machines, etc.)In addition, participants can be entered into a raffle to win a MacBook Air courtesy of TekServe.
Thank you so much in advance for your help.
Done!
Urban Artifact: 16 Days Later

Ever had that creeping suspicion you have seen something before? I had such a feeling today when I spied upon this item: a Lite Brite. Or would that be EX-Lite Brite? In any case, when I got home I poked around my archives and, sure enough, I was correct. This item, albeit in a better state of repairs was captured by Chris Polinsky on March 12th. The curious thing is he spotted this missive at Lorimer Street and Driggs Avenue. It has since migrated to the other side of McCarren Park. Ah, the stories this object could tell…

UPDATE, 10:17 pm: it has been brought to my attention that this is the handiwork of this lady. Thanks MMB!
Wednesday: GWAPP!

The nuance/”selective cognition” GWAPP— or at least certain members acting unilaterally therein*— employs to continue their charade of being a “grassroots” community organization continues to amuse and confound yours truly. Per Ms. Holowacz and Mr. Thompson organizing meetings requires work. Yet, since the whole “Greenpoint Boathouse” thing went down (which of course GWAPP, among others, “endorsed”) they have been quite active despite the shortfall of “helpers”/”worker bees”. Why is that?
I’ll be wearing this button at this meeting (while filming it), what about you? I for one really hope this lady (who speaks at 1:19) shows up.
She’s got my vote!
P.S.: North 9 street and Kent Avenue is not Greenpoint. DUH.

I am a personal “Life Coach” and will be treated in a professional manor. Our relationship will be close, but boundaries will be outlined before employment. Children and Pet Friendly. My requirements for employment: $10,000 USD per week plus travel expenses, and lodging. I take sunday afternoon off. Non Disclosure Agreement – No problem…
I motivate you to be a better person through etiquette, personal relationship development, skill and behavior modification and tact…

This interesting counterpoint to today’s find on Huron Street hails from (where else) Bedford Avenue.

I happened upon this fellow this afternoon on Bedford Avenue. It has been my observation that the “cat walk” (my moniker for Williamsburg’s main drag) has many a folk strutting his/her stuff. Most think they look better than they really do. And then you have this gentleman. His fashion sensibility (which I would describe as Bootsy Collins with a dash of Road Warrior) tickled my fancy. Note the monocle installed onto the eye wear. I am pleased to report he had a great personality to match. I give this get-up two enthusiastic thumbs up. Well done!
