A lass named Fifi writes:

Hey there, Miss Heather,

Since you’re so good at putting the word our to the nabe when one of us loses something, I thought I’d reach out. My beautiful 3 & 1/2 year old Fuji cruiser was stolen from in front of my apt on on Leonard, between Greenpoint & Calyer. Cops say it’s my job to look for it, so I’m scouring. It’s a light silvery-purple in the body shape of the attached pic.

Bike has:
black wire basket on front
black water bottle holder
rear-view mirror on left side
ringy-bell with cats on it on left side
front wheel was recently bent on a ride

If you could let people know, I’d be ever so grateful!

Done! Anyone who has seen this bicycle or knows of its whereabouts should contact Fifi via email at fifi(dot)fleshwound (at)gmail(dot)com

Thanks!

New York Shitty Day Starter: Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser

January 11, 2012 ·
Filed under: 11211, Williamsburg, Williamsburg Brooklyn

This was brought to my attention by a chap named Brandon. He writes:

This is a benefit to raise money for student uniforms at Grand Street Campus High School.
There are many students in the school whose families can’t afford uniforms for their sons or daughters. Many of them have just one set, which doesn’t work well for a five day week. Because of this, some of the students won’t come to school at all. Providing extra uniforms helps keep these kids in the classroom.  Each uniform comes to about $30 a piece.
If you’re able to, please tell your readers to come out! Thanks!

El Rey

Charles Le Brigand (who took the above photograph) writes:

Felipe was pushing his cart filled with a mishmash of plastic bottles and metal cans. He comes from the state of Guerrero in Mexico, “el estado de la revolucion”, he proudly said. I asked him if he could sing as well and Felipe started to chant his favorite ranchera ballade and impersonated his idol, Vincente Fernandez. Cars were honking while waiting at the light and passersby were applauding him.

After saying goodbye to Felipe and walking a few blocks, I could still hear his voice echoing underneath the elevated train tracks. It makes me happy to meet jovial people like Felipe.
