Mark Your Calendars: National Night Out

Since I have been hearing a lot of buzz about police matters in our Precinct of late (and there will be no Community Council meetings until September) I feel compelled to note that in two short weeks the 94th will be hosting its annual National Night Out. This is an excellent opportunity to meet and chat with members of our police department. Have a concern you’d like to raise? This is an excellent time to do it! What’s more, I have heard it is a lot of fun (really). Check it out!

New York Shitty Day Ender: Clean!

On a lark today I decided to see how Java Street’s feral furniture fest (READ: illegal dumping) was progressing. You can imagine my shock and subsequent delight when I beheld this. Not only is everything spic and span (all things being relative), but the much-beleaguered trash receptacle has been divested of its contents.

What a difference a visit from the Department of Sanitation makes!

Spotted At Pets On The Run: Adoptable Cuties!

This afternoon as I headed out to run a few errands I spotted a new (and as you can see adorable) face at this establishment. Intrigued, I decided to stop by later.

When I did I noticed this lass (?), clearly fatigued from standing guard at the front door, was out cold…

and that she has a “friend”!

Those of you who are looking for a furry companion (or two) should stop by and make their acquaintance. Eyeball-searing cuteness (as seen in the above photo) awaits.

Quicklink: What’s In A Name?

I was recently asked just this by Julie Strickland of Brooklyn Based. Being the colossal dork I am, I brought the above map to her attention. As you can see it places East Williamsburg in— gasp— Queens! Those of you who are looking for a little fun reading on this hot and humid day should give this tome a read. I am not suggesting this for purely shameless self-promotional purposes either. Did you know there was a place in Brooklyn called “Pigtown”? There was. Perhaps the New York Times should profile that!

Now At 159 Greenpoint Avenue: Adelina’s

Today while running errands I spied a menu for this establishment and decided to swing by and see it for myself. Per the very nice barista on hand, they have been officially open for a couple of weeks.

While I cannot honestly say the fare is really my thing (although I do confess the bruschetta sounds enticing), it would be nice to see something finally take root here. As many of you recall a number of restaurants/bars have occupied this space rapid succession. Maybe this one will stick? Only time will tell I suppose. In any case the closing time of midnight will undoubtedly please its neighbors many of whom found its predecessor the Gypsy Bar— or more accurately the noise arising from thereof— an absolute nightmare. Non food-related tip/props: they have excellent air conditioning!
