The Kosciuszko Bridge
I am certain a number of my fellow Greenpointers are relieved to learn that yesterday the State Siting Board unanimously voted against TGE’s proposal to build a power plant at Bushwick Inlet. What might have fallen under your radar, however, is the Kosciuszko Bridge was denied landmarking and its days are numbered. I cannot honestly say I am surprised by this development, but nonetheless I do feel a sense of loss. In honor of this much-maligned bridge I have pulled an article from the September 23, 1940 edition of New York Times about its naming. Here it is.
Once this bridge is rendered into so much scrap metal its legacy will live on in the minds of many a movie enthusiast. Anyone familiar with the movie The Godfather will know exactly what I am talking about*.

Fedders Friday: Jefferson Street Revisited
Filed under: Fedders Friday
It had been awhile since I checked in on one of my favorite pieces of Feddertecture: 100 Jefferson Street. Wishing to gauge the progress of this study in stucco I walked by there recently. I am pleased to report it is coming along quite nicely.
The fence is down…
and with its departure has come graffiti.
Lots of graffiti. I wonder if the developer hired someone to do this so these luxury town homes would have that built-in “urban” feel? If anyone out there has the last name “Pare” today is your lucky day. Your dream home awaits.
Not only is this building appointed with Fedders boxes in the front, but it also sports a plentiful number of them in the back —along with some inspired use of aluminum siding. Magnificent!
All for your air-conditioned comfort. One can never have too many Fedders.

P.S.: Per a new New York Shitty commenter, Ali:
Pare el desplazamiento = looks like displacement…
Here is Halden’s (AKA: Brooklyn11211) take:
Pare el desplazamiento means stop displacement (parar is “to stop” – I’ll take Ali’s word that desplazamiento means “displacement”).

Great Moments In Real Estate Rhetoric: Irving Avenue
Filed under: Bushwick
Granted the house in question is located in Queens, but the above advertisement was located in Bushwick. Exactly what kind of “magazine-like house” is this realtor pushing? Golf Digest? Field & Stream? Soldier of Fortune? Playboy?!?
If it is the latter most the Mister and I are packing up our bunnies and moving to Queens!

Welcome to the new Williamsburg. I have no doubt developers will be tripping over each other to include this piece of urban grit in their advertising campaigns.
