Citizen Christine (who sent the above photograph taken at today’s Three Kings Parade) writes:

Tom (Burrows, general badass and Public Safety Chair of Community Board 1— Ed. Note) wanted camels! He got 3 at the three kings parade today. That’s more than electeds who marched. Any chance this could go on NewYorkShitty? Another wish from Tom.

Duly noted for posterity!

Not sure if you heard about this… but Max Starck was apparently kidnapped in the street!    Not sure if this is for real, but both of these blogs are pretty legit in the Satmar circles…

Those who are interested (and let’s face facts: this is crazy— even by north Brooklyn standards) can read coverage from the New York Post and Gothamist by clicking here and here.
UPDATE, January 4th, 2014: this case is no longer one of kidnapping but now murder. You can read the Post’s rundown of this gruesome turn of events by clicking here.

A lady named Christa writes:

5 people have been killed in this intersection and it is one block away from a school.  The community is demanding traffic calming techniques including a possible slow zone.

This petition has close to 250 signatures in 48 hours.

My interest in this is personal as my husband was hit by a car turning off of McGuinness Blvd.  Luckily, he wasn’t injured badly.  As our Assemblyman Joe Lentol says ““People here aren’t afraid of getting mugged – they’re afraid of getting hit.”

Here is another article from the “Daily News” (dated 2010) with the shocking statistic that “researchers witnessed drivers violate traffic laws every 17 seconds at Nassau Ave” at the exact intersection where Nicole Detweiler was killed as well as 4 others.

Please considering covering this story.  The last thing we need is another study from the DOT that goes nowhere.

Again, here is the petition if you post those on your site.  Personally, I think we need a 20 mile an hour slow zone on McGuinness since drivers regularly go 9 miles over the speed limit.  Most pedestrians will survive a crash from a car going 30 miles per hour, but won’t survive one going 40 miles per hour.

From The New York Shitty Inbox: Homeless At The House Of Suds

Laura (who took the above-depicted photos today, January 1st) writes:

Hi Heather!

Mike went across the street to the Bodega and came across a homeless guy passed out in the cold in the doorway of House of Suds. He couldn’t quite bend to help the guy. Mike was astonished that other people were out on the street and hadn’t called for help. After all it’s 26 degrees out there. He hurried upstairs to call 911. We heard the ambulance in a matter of moments, but Mike also used some key words. He said “I don’t want to see another one of these homeless guys dead in this precinct.” And then whatever was asked, he said “94th”.

Well said. Yes, the Bloomberg era may be over— but we will be dealing with the consequences of it for some time. Let’s face facts: our former Mayor’s “record” when it comes to the issue of homelessness is dismal. Thus it has been and will continue to be our responsibility as citizens to look out for those who may not be able to look out for themselves. If you see someone who may be unconscious on our city’s streets— especially now that winter (replete with storm warnings) is upon us— call 911. We have already had one homeless person die of hypothermia in this community so far. This is one too many.
