Well Look At This

After writing about the bag depicted to the left LAST WEEK it has come to my attention via Gothamist that the New York Post has brought this to the attention of the Russian Orthodox Church (with predictable results). Way to go guys, that’s what I call professionalism! Perhaps I should provide you with my mailing address so you can simply cut me a check (READ: finders fee) every time you use my web site for news leads without citing it? Would that make it easier for you?

Please advise.

Miss Heather

  2. What floors me is the idiots in the story who say “everyone calls it that”. And I realize how small these people’s worlds really and truly are.

You know, I was once a stupid 20 year old kid, running around nyc, wearing a lot of the same clothes these kids do now (except back then they were new – ooh snap). But at least I knew enough about the world to know the difference between a Russian Orthodox church and a mosque. And if I didn’t, I wouldn’t try to use the excuse that ‘everyone calls it that’.

  4. The writer (REUVEN FENTON) must have seen your post. The timing is just too suspicious. How could he not even reference your post?!

  6. That makes sense Bitchcakes. He has contacted me about stuff (on my blog) before. If my memory serves me correctly the last time he wanted contact info for the “Rat King” (dated 7/24/08):

I once contacted you. I’m a reporter with the New York
    Post.

I’m interested in what’s going on with the Rat King’s
House. I’ve never heard of the Rat King, except from
reading about him on your blog.

Do you know his name? Do you know how I can get a hold
    of him?

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Best,

    Reuven Fenton

  8. the “artists” of the bag was on the tv news too… yea.. everyone is calling it the mosque.. dumbasses… the priest didnt seem very happy… maybe they should draw the mosque on leonard, but all that matter is they are going sell lots of bags.

  10. my work sells the bags (the owners are friends of the artists) and it’s funny because the paper called here and talked to someone who wasn’t me about it. they didn’t write about us (thankfully).

  12. I’ve been supremely stuck on this bag for far too long, because I’ve been trying to figure out how to explain the colonialist aspect of gentrification. It is too easy, though, and too obvious.

But then I noticed something that just cracked me up, which is that your image is a screen shot of Etsy and last I heard you aren’t allowed to sell your mass-produced tote bags on Etsy.

I’m sure they think they’re clever for breaking the rules, but it does kind of make them jerks.

And yeah: it is clear that someone is trolling your site for leads.
