Work Has Begun At The Old 87th!
It would appear that Herbert Street’s old precinct house has begun its journey from hoosegow to affordable housing! What’s more, my buddy over at Musings on ‘point got a sneak peak of the interior of the station house and garage. Check it out!

I just took some photos of that building the other day. I thought it looked too cool to go to waste.
I can’t believe how far gone the old 87 got. I remember sometime around 1986 or 1987 that my school class got a tour of the facility (though at this time it was no longer an active precinct). They showed us where they held criminals that were awaiting processing, etc. Quite the experience for a young child, though the more I think of it, the more I realize it was some sick form of “Scared Straight” for kids who really didn’t need it.
this place freaks me out whenever i have to walk around its corner (with the creeping vines and trees) to bqe discount wine and liquors. i’m kind of obsessed with its creepiness, though … oh well, at least it will be put to good use.
