Greenpoint Then & Now: Shanghai Lee

Today’s installment hails from the intersection of Bedford and Manhattan Avenue. If you look carefully at the old photograph you will see the spirit of Shanghai Lee’s past.

And just as I stated in this post, if you look carefully at the facade of what is now Le Brique today you will still see a glimpse of Shanghai Lee’s future!*

  2. I moved on from Greenpoint nearly a quarter-century ago, and nowhere in the world have I found the equal of Shanghai Lee’s beef and chicken two colours/two flavours. In fact, I’ve never even seen it on a menu anywhere else (not even in the authentic Chinese restaurants in Chinatown at the time). It must have been peculiar to their chef. Oh, for a time machine to travel back for a dinner there!
