THIS WEEKEND: Empty Cages Collective
This upcoming Sunday, June 29th the Beehive Salon will be hosting a very special group of glamour pusses; adoptable cats and kittens (including the inimitable Miss Squirrel, seen above) from Empty Cages Collective, a rescue organization recently started up by my good friend, animal lover and fellow Greenpointer, Lisacat.

Unfortunately, there’s no way I could bring another cat here, as I am living with two formerly feral kitties who are now fat, happy and lazy.
However … you seem like someone who might know the answer to this question. When I come across a feral but approachable cat somewhere around the city (as I sometimes do), what should I do? If I am able to grab the cat (as I sometimes am), is there a place I can take them that would handle getting it spayed? I hate to just walk away …
This is a VERY good question. Here’s what I am going to do: I am going to talk to Lisa of Empty Cages Collective and get her take. She has a ridiculous amount of experience to draw from and is much better qualified to answer your question than I am— although we now have a feline “visitor” I suspect we will trap, neuter and try to find a new home for!
The one piece of advice I can give you Anulla is the ASPCA does free/cheap spay and neutering from mobile veterinary facilities. I wrote a post about this back in April. Here it is:
