Mildly Disturbing Image Of The Day: Intervention
I’m not terribly sure what led up to what you see in the above photograph and I sure as hell didn’t make it my business by asking. If I had to hazard a guess I’d say this is Larry da Junkman’s way of administering some tough love. In any case, this is not the first time I have seen a man bound, gagged and taped to a chair in Greenpoint —and I seriously doubt it will be the last.
Miss Heather
P.S.: No one was hurt or harmed in any way during the taking of this photograph. After being debriefed the above captive was released no worse for wear. In fact, he thanked Larry. The Thing is a junk shop, not Guantanamo Bay. Simple tomfoolery, nothing more. If it wasn’t I would have done something —like call the police.

Wait, I just followed a link from Gothamist here. Isn’t this some sort of crime taking place?
Trust me, everything turned out OK. No one was harmed physically or emotionally. No crime was committed.
Whew, ok, because Gothamist has updated to post this:
“Our sources tell us the scene wasn’t just a gag or from a movie shoot…but was very real. While details are unfolding, what is known is that the incident took place at a restaurant in the neighborhood, between employees there.”
and that just sounds pretty bad.
Maybe you should straighten them out.
The good news is that now I have found your blog, which is very funny.
Um, sorry to be a pest, but maybe you could stop by Gothamist or post something else about this photo because on second thought it just doesn’t look like “all in good fun” to me.
Where was this photo taken?
So, um ….
“I’m not terribly sure what led up to what you see in the above photograph and I sure as hell didn’t make it my business by asking.”
was … like … poetry … or something.
OK!
I’m a poet and I didn’t know it! 😉
Provided I can reach him and he consents, I will follow-up with this sorely mistreated Greenpointer and take a statement about his detention.
Take it easy AnnaZed… and thanks for reading! 🙂
How do you know no one was emotionally or physically hurt, if you don’t know what was happening in the photo? That seems counterintuitive. Thanking someone who tied and gagged you sounds more helsinki syndrome than corroboration that all was well.
Seriously, that photo is creepy. At no point should there ever be a situation where you walk into a store and they tie you up. (Otherwise, watch out – the Jehovah’s Witnesses may stumble onto a more drastic method.)
The only exception is if the lovin’ was something other than ‘tough’, if you know what I mean.
j.b.
I think the term you are looking for is Stockholm Syndrome.
That said, I am not clear how this gent found himself bound and gagged (I was not present). I was present, however, when he was released. Why don’t we get his take on things? It would strike me as being counterintuitive to pass judgment without getting his take.
Thanks for commenting! 😉
