the combination of the hardware store and the sally army store has taunted me since i moved here all those years ago. i never have my camera when the light is right and when i have my camera the light is wrong. i still didn’t have my camera and this isn’t what i wanted ultimately but at least it’s here so when those buildings are sold i can still remember this part of greenpoint.

At one time, an A&P was located where the thrift shop is now. A&P opened the larger supermarket between India and Java Streets (currently occupied by C-Town) in 1972. The other A&P in Greenpoint during the 60s, 70s and, for part of the 80’s was located on Driggs Avenue (now, a Met Food) and Russell Street. This was originally the location of the Winthrop Theater. Part of the old theater wall, on the Russell Street side, was incorporated into the construction of the supermarket.
