  2. I wish them the best but I’m so sad that all the old interior is gone, Greenpoint Coffee House had hands down one of the best interiors in all of North Brooklyn.

  4. Believe it or not the owner was aware that what she did was *quite* unpopular. Her explanation was as follows: “I do not like black.” Fair enough.

  6. Fair enough indeed but those new booths are quite dark too. The round ones accommodated larger groups, I loved that!

  8. I just registered because i felt so strongly the need to comment. I think her explanation might be sufficient if the new design had at least been better or more interesting. But she basically evicted a longstanding business which served great food at reasonable prices in a beautiful, unique atmosphere. i took many a photograph in there while waiting for my food. I’m not sure how replacing that beautiful decor with that dated, cheesy sponge painting improved upon anything. I hope the food is better, for her sake.

  10. Personally, I am not crazy about the decor but the deal (like it or not) is this: she owns the property and can do what she wants. That said, I’ll be interested to see what the fare is like. Will wait until they have a full menu going, though: I hate brunch.

  12. I finally got the nerve to peer in the window. What a disappointment. The old interior was beautiful and ahead of (or contributied to) the design trend that brought us the 5 leaves, manhattan inn and the rest. To spend so much time, energy and money to make a space so depressing… There are no words… I am absolutely appalled by the death of irony. The coffee cup on the back of the chairs makes sincerely makes me feel so sad. The “open” sign outside is so desperate. The menu doesn’t have one vegetarian item so I can’t even try it to judge the food. Given that i live across the street i would have supported just about anything opening up, but wow…

    🙁

  14. I agree that the interior is a disappointment. But I am more disturbed that you stated there are no vegetarian items. Given how many people here are vegan/vegetarians (I am the latter) I’d say their menu needs some serious retooling.

Tell me what you're thinking...
