From The New York Shitty Inbox: A Fire At The Viridian?
Filed under: 11222, Greenpoint, Greenpoint Brooklyn, Greenpoint Magic
It just goes to show that when I take a vacay from the neighborhood all hell breaks loose. First it was getting above ground (from the G) to hear the sound of women screaming at each other on Huron Street. Then my buddy Kerry told me that he heard two people fell out of the window at the Viridian. When I got home the following was awaiting my reading pleasure in my inbox. Nancy writes:
The boy just called to let me know the Viridian is on fire. I’m at work and the carnage will probably be under control by the time I get out. Please take some pretty pictures for me!
Does anyone have the 411 on what happened? If so please share via comments or email at missheather (at) thatgreenpointblog (dot) com. Your identity will remain anonymous if you so desire.
Thanks!
Miss Heather
UPDATE, September 9, 2010:
an anonymous tipster (who forwarded me the above photograph) writes:
Fire was on 3rd floor and only appeared to be 1 or possibly 2 apartments.

Not sure what happened, but I live on Huron and my son and I walked over there after I picked him up from school. A bunch of firetrucks, a ladder leading up to a window on the second (or third) floor, kinda smelled like smoke but no signs of a fire, and a bunch of people hanging around who also didn’t know what happened. There were people in the building occasionally looking out their windows.. Doesn’t look like there was an evacuation. I am not sure when all of this ‘started’ so perhaps we missed all the excitement.
First off, I adore your screen name, MagnoliaThunderpussy. Secondly, methinks I’ll have to ask a couple of my moles what happened. Yes, NYS has infiltrated the Viridian!
I live across the street from them on the Huron side and I peer into their massive windows on a nightly basis. Not very entertaining.
The real action is on Green. Trust me. It’s like a college dorm. I shit you not one time I saw a woman ride her bike through the lobby, past the door man and up to (presumably) her apartment.
awwww man schucks. You’re going to have to invite me over so I can get a proper viewing.
I agree. I love that screen name.
@ SC & MT: We should set up a few lawn chairs at 125 Green and watch the hilarity unfold. Mind you both: the fun usually starts after midnight.
Add some Cab-Sav to the mix and you got yo’self a DEAL. Merci on the screen name. Can’t believe my mother named me this. I got teased a lot in middle school.
Methinks a bottle Colt 45 might be more appropriate. A friend of mine actually went to a party in the Viridian a couple of weeks ago. She was absolutely aghast at what she saw. It was more or less a “rec room”/”man cave” from some house in the burbs replete with a pinball machine, air hockey, etc. Little in the way of actual furniture, however, there was a child’s bedroom replete with crib. The latter had a door from an Explorer hanging above it. This was covered in graffiti and accompanied by (what she deemed) a really bad painting which read “The Muppets Take Greenpoint”. Yup.

oooooooh that’s a bold statement. that’s ART! (lol) what does it MEEEEEEEAN?
Let me guess. Rich kid from Westchester, attending NYU =D
You write: what does it MEEEEEEEAN?
Since I did not see this item in person I’d hazard to guess “Another reason I made a good decision when I decided NOT to be an art teacher”.
Tell me what you're thinking...
