At Large In Greenpoint: Spiff

I just received this the above photograph of Spiff the cats from her very upset owner, Stephanie. She writes:

Heather,

Our 12 year old cat just escaped from our car on Greenpoint and Leonard Street between Manhattan Avenue and Franklin Street (My boyfriend ran out of gas, chaos ensued, cat jumped out the car window.) I am hoping she is still in that area, but she might try to get back to our place on Franklin between Green and Huron. Would you mind posting her picture and a plea for people to contact us if they spot her? Her name is Spiff. She has grey stripes, a white chin and green eyes. She has a zitty thing on her chin right now from the food bowl. She is very sweet.

If anyone has seen Spiff please contact Stephanie via email at: stephanie (dot) lawkins (at) gmail (dot) com

Thanks!

Miss Heather

  2. I hope he’s not shy around people. I’ve have numerous tiger cats over the years and only one of them wasn’t nervous around people. Maybe if someone talks to him first he’ll be responsive to being picked up.

My tiger cat occasionally gets out. When he comes back he’makes a LOT of noise. So I’m hopeful that he’ll be safely back home soon.

  4. Thank you Heather. One update: In my first panicked call with my boyfriend, I misunderstood where Spiff had jumped out of the car – it was actually somewhere on Green between Franklin and Manhattan. If anyone sees her, please please let me know. We are putting up flyers now.

  6. Lisanne – She is not nervous around people, thankfully. We’re hoping that once it gets a little cooler and quieter tonight, she’ll either come out and start making some noise. Thanks for your good wishes.

  8. Saw your poster on Franklin and it really tore us up… we have a cat that could be Spiff’s sister, right down to the scratch on the chin. Hope hope hope you find her. She looks like a crafty one so hopefully she’ll lay low but jump right out when she hears you calling. If I were a wayward cat on Green St., I’d definitely hide out in t.b.d.’s big backyard, so you might alert them if you haven’t already. Positive thoughts for you and Spiff… please keep us updated!

  10. Duckfeather: Thank you so much. I just got back from t.b.d. – I alerted the bartender as well as the guys manning the grill. I can definitely see her ambling in and asking for a burger. They also have a flyer posted right inside their door.

Two updates: We received a call from someone who saw her shortly after she escaped yesterday walking down Freeman towards Franklin. And, our neighbor says he saw her outside the parking lot on Franklin and Huron this morning at 7am, and she took off down Huron. So, we are very hopeful that she is circling the general area around Franklin, Green and Huron, between Manhattan and West. Please keep an eye out.

Also, I have been amazed by all the Greenpoint residents who have offered to help and gone above and beyond with their kindness, including Heather and her colleague Larry. This is a great neighborhood.

One last note: If someone finds her and doesn’t have our number, you can drop her at Dog Habitat on Franklin between Green and Huron. They know how to get in touch with us.

  12. Hi Stephanie, I wish you and Spiff all the best and a fast reunion. If I see her out here in East Williamsburg/Bed Stuy (hopefully not) I will let you know ASAP!

  14. WE FOUND HER! Or, more precisely, two incredibly kind gentlemen found her outside their place on Dupont and McGuinness on Saturday, saw one of our flyers today and called us tonight. Thank you everyone who looked for her and everyone who posted kind words.
