McCarren Park Photos Du Jour: Meet The Meat!

Ever since I shared the good news about the hunk o’ mystery meat at McCarren Park I have received a number of inquiries from folks horrified, amused and everything in between. All had more or less the same question on his/her mind:
What the hell is that?
I have been asking myself this very same question. So I put on my coat and headed down to investigate the matter personally. I go the extra mile for my readers.
I am pleased to announce that as of 12:16 p.m. today this curious culinary item is still there!
It measures exactly ten inches long…
and appears to have once belonged to a sea animal of some kind in cow or bull’s mouth (see comments). Yummy.

Wait til this gets picked up by the Post and dubbed the “McCarren Monster”…
The Mister and I think this is the aftermath of some Greenpoint chuds having a Super Bowl barbecue.
I initially thought maybe something like a lobster tail. But on closer inspection I agree with the person who said tongue.
From what? Jabba the Hutt?
Cow? They have HUGE tongues.
The Mister has just confirmed this is a beef tongue. A (and I quote) PUTRIFIED beef tongue.
1) eww.
2) Did the Idiotarod pass through McCarren Park? That is the best explanation I can offer for an errant and putrefied beef tongue.
Oh, please. the drunks who hang at the benches around the McGolrick dog run are consistently “helping” dogs by throwing in old hams carcasses of chickens. But tongue is a new one…
