Lamp on Russell Street

I don’t know which I want more: this lamp or dainty ankles. I suppose I shouldn’t have taken all those dance lessons. Either way, I adore the person who saw fit to put this in his/her window.

Miss Heather

P.S.: For those of you who are unaware, this lamp is a small reproduction of the one featured in this movie. If you have not watched A Christmas Story please do so. When the heater in the basement belches large amounts of smoke into their house take note. When I was a child Pa Heather took the same approach to fixing things: a modicum of knowledge of things mechanical coupled with an advanced command of profanity. Like father, like daughter.

That said, I prefer the segment when Ralphie’s mother entreats his younger brother to eat like a pig. It takes me back to when I was in management.

  2. my mom has a lamp like that. my brother gave it to her for christmas, and she said, ‘oh, look, it’s frajeelay’, because this is her favorite movie. and my nephew said, “It’s a very prestigious award” and my mom got really excited, because she thought my nephew was responding to her christmas story reference. but it turned out he was just reading the other side!

but when i was in highschool, and they didn’t make christmas story lamps, that i know of, my mom was at a closing sale at alexander’s (i don’t know if they had those in other places. it was kind of like caldor but less expensive.) anyway, they were selling the fixtures and she bought 2 of those plastic legs they put the pantyhose on, and she fully intended to make her own leg lamps out of them. but she’s a bit like me, so she never actually made the lamps. but she -did- display one of them in her bedroom window for several years after that. the other one, she raffled off at her job at the town pool. seriously, people bought raffle tickets for it.

i actually hate the movie, but only because i was forced to watch it over and over and over again (i think tnt got the day of christmas story from my mom). but i think it’s cool that symbols of it are part of the modern christmas lexicon, the way references to miracle on 34th street or it’s a wonderful life all everywhere.
