Jessica writes (in an email entitled “Have you seen this?):
I saw this post today on gothamist, and my jaw just dropped. A megalith tower on freaking India street???? Are the thousand yuppies stupid enough to buy crappy condos for $750,000 all going to crowd onto the G train? A-holes.
To answer Jessica’s question: yes, I have seen this. I was especially amused by this quote from the developer, one Jonathan Bernstein:
We are asking for radical changes to the zoning, but we do think it’s way different than anything that’s been proposed on the waterfront… We think it will be a gateway to Manhattan and Greenpoint.
New York Shitty analysis: it looks like Long Island City ate a business park and took a shit.

One presumes you are well aware of this note from CurbedNY’s comments on this proposal: “…it’s sure to get the Miss Heathers of the world riled up about the future of the beloved Polish burg…” They did link to your site, and actually are probably quite correct here.
Yup, I’m aware of the link: that’s how I learned about this in the first place! More than anything I am amused by the sheer absurdity of this “plan”. As Joey wrote in same said post this IS Greenpoint after all…
The only reason the City and developers get away with stuff like this, is because the community let’s them. There’s power in numbers. The community needs to protest and get way more involved otherwise things will get 1, 000 times worse.
I agree, SpillConspirator. Can you imagine the ramifications for public transportation if this thing gets built?
there goes my view of the river at the end of the block.
however, on a VERY tongue-in-cheek note: will this get the G-train increased to 8 cars instead of 4? and arrive more frequently? if so, i’m down…
Rowan: Nah, they’ll add more service and cut the cars down to two. They like to watch us do the “G train sprint”.
Tell me what you're thinking...
