From The New York Shitty Inbox: Dog Habitat Gets A Very Special Caller

spooky

I recently bumped into Rob Maher one of the minds behind Unleash Brooklyn and Dog Habitat. He told me about something really neat which happened recently. It involves the above lass. Her name is Spooky and this is her story:

Spooky found us. No, really! She walked up the stairs and sat on our front door just before the temperature dropped this fall. She is about six months old. She is extremely friendly, but in need of some personal attention and lots of love.

Anyone interested in learning more about this street smart Greenpoint girlie— or wants to make your home Spooky’s permanent haunt— please shoot the guys (and gals) of Dog Habitat an email at: rescue (at) doghabitat (dot) org. They can also be reached via telephone at: (347) 601-8678.

Thanks!

Miss Heather

  2. Our cat Lily did the same thing – she was only a couple of months old, starving to death (she was a bag of bones, full of parasites and worms when she was rescued, getting zero nutrition from whatever she found to eat in the streets), and freezing in icy rain. Even though she was scared shitless of people, she dragged herself onto someone’s stoop for help. She was passed along that day to cat adoption volunteers, and that’s how I met her that afternoon. Lily saved her own life and has proven herself to be a very smart cat — communicative, and clever about gaining access to things that I think are firmly closed off. She’s even become quite brave about meeting new humans, realizing that they are all potential slaves to her extremely clearly-communicated requests for treats, table scraps, running tap water, and naptime snuggles. (I can’t take a good nap without her any more.)

If Spooky is anything like our Lily, her adoptive human(s) will have a sweet, involved, appreciative and occasionally (and delightfully-exasperatingly) devilish family member. I only wish I could adopt another… ! (Just had to share because the story felt so similar.)

Spooky is obviously special, even for a kitty — I hope she finds a good home.

  4. Street cats are the best cats! We have two Greenpoint tabbies. They’re absolutely wonderful. One is a big touch-looking (but extremely gentle) lug, the other a spry little shit who bosses the other cats around. I’ll give you two guesses as to which one is his “momma’s boy”.
