New & Noteworthy: Orphanage Mopeds
Okay, this isn’t that new (per the gentleman I spoke to this afternoon this establishment has been open since April) but I want to pass it along to all my moped-loving friends and neighbors. Although I eschew operating motorized transportation (or anything with wheels period— I do so in the interest of public safety*), I think mopeds are a great way to fight gridlock. What’s more, instead of selling new merchandise the folks at Orphanage restore older (and many cases, very neat) models for re-use. Swing by their shop (or web site) and see for yourself!

*and out of reverence for the movie Repo Man— which is why I ride the bus. Both of them.

I was the fourth owner of a 1978 Puch Maxi-Luxe when I was 14 in 1987 and I’ve had a romantic memory of that moped ever since. It was maroon and if I ever saw it in a store, I might just have to get it back.
You should swing by. They may very well have one— albeit not in maroon— but that’s easy to fix! 😉
Did you know Alex Cox is making a sequel to Repo Man, called Repo Chick?
No, I didn’t!
