Where In 11222?
Just like the many of you I spent the day knocking around north Brooklyn savoring the sunshine. As I walked by a house I have undoubtedly passed hundred of times before without so much as a second glance I spied the following. Intrigued, I took a photograph of my discovery.
This phrase sounded vaguely familiar so when I got home I did a little Googling. Soon enough it all made sense.
So we have established that someone in the Garden Spot of the Universe has a fondness for Tarzan. What street does this bit of Greenpoint glory call home?

According to the former owner of this building (who moved upstate this past Fall) “Oum Gawa” was a punk rock club/speak easy bar in the late 70’s/early 80’s. He said they bricked over the front because brawls would break out at the club and people would throw trash cans through the windows. When I went in there (shortly before he moved out) there was still a bar in the back and and amps & instruments in there. It was only used for storage after the club closed… not sure when that was exactly.
NICE. One time when I was at Tommy’s an old timer told me about how the front window had to be replaced three times because it wasused improperly. In this case as an exit: three people (on three different occasions) had been thrown through it.
You know, that’s pretty similar to “Watch out” in Polish, uwaga. I wonder if maybe it’s just a warning about the step by someone whose Polish was a little rusty?
