is that ICE in the urinal?
Yup. I don’t know why and I didn’t ask.
Hey, things are tough all over. I’m sure there was much anguish over the bathroom budget and, if it’s decided that the pink urinal pucks must go, resourcefulness dictates the use of crushed ice.
And I see why the Tommy’s Tavern pooper is for paying customers only. You wouldn’t want just anyone walking in there.
“Some establishments, often bars, pubs, or nightclubs, fill their urinals with ice cubes during peak hours. As the ice melts, it serves to slowly flush the urinal, and also cools the urine to prevent smells from rising during use.”
Back in the early 1980s, I saw this graffiti series above the urinal at Bradley’s in Greenwich Village:
“I never pissed on ice cubes before.”
“So, ice cubes never pissed on you, either.”
“National Council for Respect to Ice Cubes (NCRIC)”
My favorite restaurant sign delimiting restroom use was in Little Italy at about the same time:
“Restrooms for Seated Customers Only”
