According to Eater, L&F is about to reopen under yet another name. Free pizza with drinks (a la Alligator Lounge) this time around.

This does in fact appear the be the case. The Alligator Lounge is expanding into this space. It will be interesting to see how it fares in light of the crappy economy and the fact there are no less than eight bars along this strip (including The Production Lounge which is located on the same block). Then again, when a lot of folks are out of work and/or low on funds the offer of free pizza (as promised on the above-depicted, albeit illegible sign) may very well prove to be a draw.

P.S.: As of January 7, 2009 it is open.

  2. the original bar in that space had free po boys on sundays. and then free something else.

it did not stop them from going under, either.

  4. Can we start a betting pool as to how many months this new bar / old concept stays open. I say it’s gone before skirt season begins.

  6. To paraphrase Silvio Dante in The Sopranos, “There are two things that are always recession-proof-certain aspects of the entertainment industry and…our thing.”

Might have to add saloons with free food to that list.

P.S.- is the Alligator’s Citgo-like sign a ploy to lure homesick Bostonians?

  8. The Citgo-esque sign is left over from Lost & Found’s ferris wheel sign. The wheel was removed. The red painted pyramid is what’s left. Nice guess, though!

  10. rheingold- not true. neighborhood threat already mentioned that greenpoint has seen bars come and go by the wayside who gave free food. it’s not enough.. and as far as certain aspects of the entertainment business.. you realize the porn industry is asking for a government bailout? http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/01/07/porn-bailout-larry-flynt_n_155878.html.

  12. the owner didn’t change, lost and found was always owned by the guy who owns alligator lounge and sugarland, and metropolitan, and hugs and a number of other places. l&F was the only one that didn’t make money. so i guess now we’ll find out if it was the location that was teh problem or, if this place does well, just that it had hot dogs instead of pizza (which i don’t doubt. i don’t like hotdogs). and as for the recession, for sure the pizza with a beer places bring in people who want to spend 5 dollars on dinner that includes alcohol. i had a friend who lived near l&f who would eat at alligator lounge every night to save money (though without the beer, you can get pizza for less). my friend moved away though.

alligator lounge is pretty uncool and there are other bars around there and it has managed to stay open quite a while. i wouldn’t be surprised if alligator 2 makes it.

    mmmpizza.
