Well the fence has been taken down at 160 Franklin Street (also known as 87 Kent Street, formerly known as the “Doof Center”).

What is “River Ballel” going to be, you ask? My greenhorn Greenpointer, the answer should be obvious: another bar eating and drinking establishment.

River Ballel (Barrel?)
160 Franklin Street
Brooklyn, New York 11222
(718) 389-8881
Opening Date: T.B.A.

For those of you who are keeping track this brings the total number of bars on Franklin Street back up seven. The Lost & Found Bar closed recently.

  2. According to Eater, L&F is about to reopen under yet another name. Free pizza with drinks (a la Alligator Lounge) this time around.

  4. Seriously, what the hell kind of restaurant is this going to be? “River Ballel?” Could they have picked a more ambiguous name? Although, I have to admit that I never knew what the “doof center” was either. The few times I was able to peak in, I saw what appeared to be either a pirate radio station or an exact replica of Marty McFly’s garage – http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/bttf/images/9/9c/Amplifier.jpg

  6. I know I always say this, but I used to live there, when it was still just Two Flags and they served Spanish food and sold a few provisions. They closed — actually, they opened a more upscale restaurant next door; one Christmas Eve the owner’s son, an off duty cop, shot (and killed, as I recall) a robber, and then that place closed, too — and I moved out right around the same time and a series of different random people rented the storefront. I think mostly they lived there.
