Lauren writes: Hi Heather, I am a lurker of your blog and love reading about local Greenpoint happenings! I was wondering if you had any insight on the fire that took place on the roof of Paloma last night? I was at the Pencil Factory and everyone filed out right after Obama won the election to watch the fire blaze instead of the tv. I haven’t been able to find anything out about it online — any ideas?

Speaking for myself I was home last night as was Mr. Heather (we both have been sick so we stayed home). Anyone out there have the 411? If so, do tell.

Miss Heather

P.S.: This item from Eater has been brought to my attention. Check it out.

  8. Oh. I read about that in the Working Class Magazine Blog – they have a crazy picture of it: http://blog.workingclassmag.com/2008/11/05/the-night-obama-won.aspx?ref=rss.

  10. The fire wasn’t just the roof, the upper floor was completely on fire. The building was really burning, it looks like alot of property damage. Rumor was that the kitchen at Paloma caught fire, and it lit up the upstairs apartment.

I saw one women walking away crying being surrounded by friends. I hope no one got hurt.

  12. Apparently at least person did get hurt. There’s a post now on Eater from a woman who was at the restaurant, because a friend of hers had just started working in the kitchen. She says that her friend fell while running out of the building and broke her wrist, so she and other friends took her to the hospital and spent most of the night there waiting for her. So that may be the group you saw.
