The Word On The Street: YEAH
Filed under: 11206, East Williamsburg, East Williamsburg Brooklyn, The Natives Are Getting Restless, The Word On The Street
I went down by a different staircase, and I saw another “Fuck you” on the wall. I tried to rub it off with my hand again, but this one was scratched on, with a knife or something. It wouldn’t come off. It’s hopeless, anyway. If you had a million years to do it in, you couldn’t rub out even half the “Fuck you” signs in the world. It’s impossible.

Today: Community Board 1 Human Services Committee Meeting

Yes folks, it has been a while (think over four years) but Community Board 1’s Human Services Committee (which was recently merged with the Public Safety Committee) will be convening this evening at 6:30 p.m. As you can see, the agenda is an interesting one. For those of you who are wondering what the “Right To Know Act” is (from DNA.info):
Called the “Right to Know Act,” the legislation would require officers to identify themselves and explain why the individual is being stopped or questioned. They would also have to explain that individuals can deny consent to a search in certain instances.
Currently, police officers are not required to identify themselves or explain why they are searching individuals…

Reader Contribution Du Jour: What Is This?
Filed under: 10002, BAD ASS, Lower East Side, Lower East Side Manhattan, Wow, WTF
This curiosity was found by a fellow Greenpoint resident we’ll call “S”. It presently resides under the Manhattan side of the Williamsburg(h) Bridge. About it she writes:
Double take: Giant flat black camper with window gates and fences chained on. The one of the door and window is worth a closer look…
Indeed it is.
Urban assault vehicle or Airbnb rental?
I am putting my money on both. Perhaps EVGrieve or Jeremiah can shed some light regarding this tenement on wheels? Anyone?
UPDATE: Someone was thoughtful enough to point out this looks like something from Escape From New York:
Great catch, John! The funny thing is this vehicle has New York state plates. However, I have spied and shot graffiti featuring Snake Plissken along the north Brooklyn waterfront. This one hails from Greenpoint.
And this one hails from the Brooklyn side of the Williamsburg Bridge:
Maybe they’re trying to escape from Brooklyn? Hmm…

Williamsburg Photos Du Jour: Special Feral Furniture Edition

Here’s the deal: I have not gotten out much lately. Part of this is due to the fact it has been very, SERIOUSLY cold. Thankfully I have had my snow globe project(s) to keep me busy. Today, being as it reached a downright sultry 41 degrees, merited a walk. It was the first time I have hit the “Catwalk” (READ: Bedford Avenue) since New Years Day. During the previously-mentioned sojourn I spied a charbroiled mattress on North 7th Street right outside the Bedford Avenue stop of the L. Finding this interesting I took a couple of photos. Without further ado, here they are!
Now let’s jump forward to January 19, 2015. Guess what? It is still there.
What’s more, I managed to capture something I honestly thought I had missed: a fellow giving himself a face/hair check courtesy of one of our shiny new(er) buildings!
Here’s looking at you, kid.
Greenpoint Photos Du Jour: Moultrie Street
Today— being as it is Martin Luther King Day— the Mister (who had the day off) and I took a walk. This vision greeted us at the intersection of Moultrie Street and Meserole Avenue. I, noting this wonder of nature is a shitting spitting distance from the Shit Tits, dubbed it Lake Shiticaca.
Upon closer inspection I concurred that the Mister’s suggested moniker “The Greenpoint Reservoir” is much more apropos.
Those of you who want to take your model motor (or U) boats for a spin— or have a few dozen rubber duckies (this being north Brooklyn, I am certain someone does)— may wish to exploit this bit of Greenpoint Glory while it lasts.

This novel approach to graffiti abatement hails from 47th Avenue. The Mister could not ascertain the redacted words in the lattermost item. This is when being an aficionado of Motorhead (which I most assuredly am) comes in handy!

At first glance I thought this was an item from The Onion. This appears not to be the case. If you have seen this fellow or know of his whereabouts the NYPD would very much like to hear from you. You can learn how and get the whole story by clicking here. Otherwise I’d be remiss by not noting:
1. Shit like this makes me miss the days when folks simply went to the C Town, feasted and left the remains (including a half-eaten pierogi) in the dairy section.
2. The resemblance this chap has to the following fellows is remarkable.
Beastie Boys video from 1994 = the disguise of choice for this fellow. Up and coming/”hip” neighborhood = a more advanced class of (ironic?) criminals.
For those of you who may be unaware/not in the know: the 94th Precinct has a Twitter account. Just today they announced January is “National Stalking Awareness Month”. Better late than never I suppose…
