Lawnmower

This image of a re-purposed lawnmower (or perhaps a challenging public art project— I’ll let you, gentle readers, make the call) hails from Throngs Neck, Bronx and comes courtesy of mytummytalkstome. Great find!

News You Can Use: Request-A-Can

I have been asked by a number of people how exactly how one can go about getting a trash can for his/her corner. If you too have been wondering about this pay attention. I have very good news!

It has been brought to my attention our city’s strongest have a nifty online web form where you can request a “Litter Basket”. Submit to your heart’s contentment, north Brooklynites!

New York Shitty Feral Furniture Watch: Better Homes & Garbage

Any and all Greenpointers who happen to be celebrating in the Garden Spot on today, America’s birthday, and are need of some household items on the cheap, head to the Java Street “Pop-Up Park”. There you will find a vast array of home furnishings (and the above bit of hilarity, which I have named “The CHUD Access Portal) free for the taking!

This is all for the taking— and bedbug free!

P.S.: Here’s a question for you, gentle readers. Do you think the ladder granting access to the East River is for us to climb down or for “them” (CHUDs) to climb up?

Perhaps this has something to do with the pile of debris this fellow saw at this building’s “open house” last weekend? Among other things. Follows are a few complaints about this property I found interesting. Enjoy!

1. There were not any when I took the above shot yesterday at ~3:30 p.m. As of 2:00 p.m. today I was told these garbage cans were still not in place.
2. Yes, I can personally attest there were Parks Officers working the line— which stretched around the corner into Bayard Street.

A very nice fellow from the Grand Street Business Improvement District* writes:

My name is Jaime Paniagua, I am with the Grand Street Business Improvement District. On July 14th & 21st the Grand Street BID will be hosting a Weekend Walk Block Party. Is it possible for you to add the Weekend Walk Block Party to your webpage?

True confession time: Yours truly L-O-V-ES Grand Street! So naturally I am more than happy to oblige Mr. Paniagua’s request. You can learn more about these block parties and the Grand Street “BID” in general by clicking here or perusing their Facebook page. Check it out!

*Whose head honcha (I mean this in the nicest possible way), Artineh Havan, was recently sworn in as a Community Board 1 member. Not only is she a very nice lady, but one of her goals is to reopen the tunnel from the Lorimer Street stop of the L train which provides egress for subway patrons to Grand Street. There is one— and not only does Ms. Havan want it accessible to the public (again) but I do too. Let’s make it happen, north Brooklynites!
