Stuff like this (which I spotted on Bedford Avenue this afternoon) absolutely breaks my heart. If any of you, dear readers, are in search of a loving companion of the feline persuasion— or know someone who is— please consider this lovely lady. “Mommy” deserves better than this. Thanks!
UPDATE, March 18, 2011: Mommy has a new home upstate! Read the comments for the scoop!

Greenpoint Street Seating du Jour: 1011 Manhattan Avenue
When I saw this ad hoc arrangement of street seating this morning I simply had to document it. This, in turn, piqued the curiously of the above chap. We struck up a conversation:
I take it you got a permits to operate a sidewalk— or would that be street— cafe?*
Man (laughing):
No, I’m here to drop these off to a new coffee shop opening up here.
Me: I take it you mean at 1101 Manhattan Avenue?
He didn’t seem to know for certain, but this is the buzz I have been hearing over the last several months. If anyone out there knows the skinny on this new establishment I would love to hear from you. Please share via comments or email at missheather (at) thatgreenpointblog (dot) com. Your identity will remain anonymous if you so desire.

*To give credit where it is truly due, I was not the originator of this idea. That distinction goes to our Public Safety Chair who, upon my telling him about coming home to find not one— but three individuals sitting atop torn cardboard boxes drinking beer and feasting upon fried chicken on my stoop (a Garden Spot party!), advised me to apply for such a permit and a liquor license. He’s a true visionary/entrepreneur, this guy.

New York Shitty Video du Jour: Miss Heather Makes a New “Friend”
I had high hopes for today. I was going to get up bright and early, knock out a bunch of bloggy goodness and go for a walk. As is usually the case this was shot utterly to shit by powers beyond my control: the host of my site upchucked. Big time. Being in a relatively rare “roll with it” kind of mood (I take my site damned serious— even if the content contained therein is often anything but) I decided to meet up with my buddy Christine: the inimitable headmistress of the McCarren Dog Run. She told me there was something on North 8 Street I needed to see. Naturally we headed over without delay.
I have passed by this building many times and have noted the presence of this little fella. What is interesting is on prior walk-bys his “posterior” was sticking out of this hole. Obviously this has changed. I noted this to Christine and that’s when things got interesting. Enjoy!
I would like to take a moment to thank this “puppeteer” for adding this bit of merrymaking to my afternoon. I needed it!

As some of you are aware, last month I reported a coffee shop, Upright Coffee, had taken possession of a tiny store front at teh above address. Well, today when I walked by I spied two gentleman working inside. I waved at them and they were kind enough to let me in.
After the usual pleasantries I asked the question which is undoubtedly on many a Greenpointer’s mind: when is this establishment going to open? Their answer was as follows:
Hopefully next week!
