LAST GASP: The Shit Never Sleeps?

September 25, 2010 ·
Filed under: 11222, Greenpoint, Greenpoint Brooklyn, Greenpoint Magic

As if my props to this, the Garden Spot’s most prominent landmark, via Time Out New York was not enough now I have learned our very own Shit Tits have made their way onto the silver screen. In an Oliver Stone film, no less! Jen (one of the fabulously cool co-pastors of the Greenpoint Reformed Church) writes:

Hi Heather,

You might already know about this, but today Ann and I went and saw the new Wall Street movie and the shit tits play a major role in the film.  Of course they aren’t playing the role of a poop processing center.  Instead they have been casted as a green energy research facility. Creative casting.

Methinks I might just have to see this (or would that be “them?”) on the big screen!

P.S.: On a related note, the Greenpoint Reformed Church’s food pantry and soup kitchen needs your help now more than ever. You can make a donation by clicking here and learn how you can volunteer by clicking here.

New York Shitty Day Ender: Go Pistons!

Although I had to work today I simply had to swing by and see the Pistons play at their (ostensible) “home field”: McCarren Park. From what little I saw (30 minutes) it was an action-packed game. But before I proceed to the following (mini) slide show I feel compelled to make a couple of disclosures:

  1. I am not really into football. It is not my thing. But that wasn’t the point of the exercise. Rather, I enjoyed seeing these kids having fun and (along with some of my fellow Garden Spotters— and I suspect a few Williamsburgers) wanted to give them a little Greenpoint spirit! On a related note methinks the 7-8 of New York’s Finest stationed around the field had some fun as well.
  2. I am not a very good “sports” photographer by virtue of the previous point. Once again: I am not a “sports” person. At least regarding not the ones which do not involve drinking beer (READ: bowling and pool).

Without further ado, here it is. Enjoy!

As always you can view this slide show in larger format by clicking here. Otherwise you can see a full roster and schedule (!) for the Pistons 2010 season by clicking here.

Go Pistons!

LOST IN ASTORIA: Ellie June

While quite a stretch I am posting this anyway. Why, you ask? Because anyone who would go to this amount of trouble to recover a lost pet deserves to have a leg (or would that be tail or whisker?) up! I found the above flier at the intersection of 31st Street and Broadway. If you have seen Ellie June or know of her whereabouts please contact her very concerned “people” at the above-listed telephone number. Thanks!

Astoria Photo Du Jour: Are You Experienced?

Where do you start with this? Yes, it is pretty sexist for starters. But quite frankly yours truly is plenty content to chuckle at this establishment’s rather odd (or perhaps spot on?) ad copy. If you are an “experienced girl” who would like to make juice for pay get your resume and/or CV in order and head down to Y & Y Green. Oh yeah: don’t tell them Miss Heather sent you!

I was not quick enough on the draw on this one— so what you are seeing instead is the aftermath of one of the crazier episodes I have witnessed on this, Greenpoint’s main drag. EVER. Cut me a little slack: it is not every day I see a rather large Polish gentleman (whose face I have blurred in the above photograph) crack one of our more colorful, um, citizens over the head with his cane. TWICE. Lest you are wondering, dear readers, (and you probably are) this attack was provoked. The above gent was harangued— rather persistently and menacingly— by not one but two rather seedy individuals.* About what I am not certain— although someone on the scene overheard something about touching someone’s daughter. Exactly whose daughter was in question is anyone’s guess.

Just another sultry Saturday afternoon in the Garden Spot… dare I say it, but it makes me wish winter would come. And fast!

*One methinks is a resident of the Greenpoint “Hotel”. The other is a man who clearly has problems. BIG TIME. If I had to hazard a guess I’d say heroin.

New York Shitty Photo Du Jour: Collect All Ten!

After work I knocked around Astoria a bit with my buddy carnade. That is where we found this, one of the most fascinating “gumball” machines I have encountered in a very, VERY long time. There’s no indication who patron saint #10 is. I’m guessing he (or she) is a special prize. Yours truly tried her luck and got St. Christopher. Carnade got St. Francis. We made a trade and are very pleased with our mutual 50 cent investments!
