A Donia Cafe Update: Not So Fast…
Today I swung by Donia Cafe to see if it was— as a commenter recently indicated— in fact, open for business. First up, the bad news:
Donia Cafe is not open— just yet. But I noticed signs of activity and knocked on the door. A very nice man (who I presume to be the owner) answered. I asked him when they were slated to open. Now the good news: he said Donia will open this upcoming Tuesday— and was nice enough to give me a menu (which you can get a sneak peek of by clicking here)!

From The New York Shitty Inbox: Al Fresco Living At Manhattan Avenue Park
Earlier this week I broke the news that 400 McGuinness Boulevard may very well become a 200 bed homeless facility. If what I found in my inbox is any indication, this may not be such a bad thing. For a city that purportedly never sleeps, I seem to find people getting a little shut eye damned near everywhere nowadays. This is especially true of our precious (and, it should be noted: poorly managed) park space. What makes this case special is, well, see for yourself…
Laura (who took the above photographs today) writes:
This particular group has been camping out in Manhattan Ave St. End Park for about a week now. Their group is getting bigger & they now have a blow up mattress & other gear there…
WOW.

Saturday 11:00 am. I took a 5 minute break from gardening to go use the port-a-potty between the handball courts. As I was walking back over I see this woman checking to see if she could get in the garden. I had locked it, for which I am thankful. I thought she might be the person that throws rotten rye bread in the garden (which the birds NEVER eat , btw) She was actually looking for a spot to dump an explosive diarrhea. She found one. When she saw me with my camera she hightailed it down Lorimer, with some sort of wardrobe malfunction going on.
NICE.

TODAY: Adoption Event At NYCPet
This item comes courtesy of a lady named Rebecca. She writes:
Hi Miss Heather,
I thought you and your readers might like to know that there is going to be a cat and kitten adoption event this weekend at the NYC Pet on Bedford Avenue. It’s on Saturday August 14th from 11 to 5. The kitties were all found during recent Trap-Neuter-Return projects in Williamsburg and Bushwick. We have many wonderful cats looking for homes, including five polydactly kittens aka “Hemingway Cats”, as well as a lovely tabby gal named Brigette. I’ve attached the event flyer and a picture of Brigette (taken by Brooke Jacobs – here’s a link to an album of more adoptable kitties, we have lots!) Please help us spread the word and support local TNR!
