New York Shitty Day Ender: Blossom
Shortly after I took took this photo a man offered to pick this flower to me. I refused, but thanked him. I want this bit of ephemeral Garden Spot beauty to remain, however briefly, for all Greenpointers to enjoy.

TOMORROW: The Don Project
This item comes from a chap named Vandal. He writes:
Hi, Heather.
I’m a friend of Jay Lombard and Rob Maher of Unleash/ Dog Habitat. They suggested to get in touch with you to possibly spread the word on our upcoming benefit concert for the film, “The Don Project”.
What is The Don Project, you ask? Well, you can follow their web site— or read their press release!
Emerging filmmakers Matthew Maguire, Dan Bowhers, and Vandal Truong team up for this powerful, intimate piece of cinema. the result is the short film, The Don Project- a little bit punk rock, and a little bit neo-realist. It is a “day in the life”, character study of Don, a dog walker and lingering skate punk scene-ster living in the current day of Brooklyn, New York.
The benefit fundraiser for the film is Saturday, July 17th at Coco 66 in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. The cover is a mere five dollars. The bands lending their support are Invisible Lines, The Amboys, Black Water, and Cecilia Celeste. Partnering with the non profit group Dog Habitat, all the film’s profits will be donated to help fund dog rescues and adoptions.
Recently wrapped principle photography, the film is now in post production and gearing up for film festivals throughout the country. The Don Project was shot in numerous Brooklyn neighborhoods including Greenpoint, Williamsburg, Bushwick and Bay Ridge.
So there have you. Check it out!

Adoptable Cuties: Meet Peggy Sue, Spider & Rocky
As I wind down for this upcoming (and purportedly HOT) weekend I thought it would be nice to feature some adoptable pups from Greenpoint’s very own Dog Habitat. To this end Rob Maher and a vollie were kind of enough to introduce me to three of their very cutest: Peggy Sue, Daisy and Rocky.
Here’s Spider (AKA: Daisy).
Here’s Peggy Sue.
And here’s Rob giving us the 411 on these two ladies.
Last up here’s my personal favorite: Rocky.
This volunteer, Laura, was kind enough to help coax a good photograph of this lively two year old Jack Russell Terrier. Rocky was recently surrendered by his owner because he could no longer afford to take care of him (this kind of thing is regrettably becoming more common given today’s economy). If exceptionally curious pups are your thing, this is your man. Follows is some footage of Rocky doing what he does best: frolic!
How much of a charmer is this guy, you ask? Enough so to make a Bull Terrier named Maggie jump for joy. Or something. In any case this is too funny not to post!
Anyone interested in giving any of these three cuties the loving home they so richly deserve should contact the folks at Dog Habitat via telephone at (347) 601-8678 or via email at: rescue (at) doghabitat (dot) org.
Thanks!
