I imagine some of you have read the tome  to the left. It was published today by the New York Post. Well, a blogger by the name of Andrew Fine has some things to say about it. This is because he broke the story first:

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. That theory is being put to the test.

As many of you know, I wrote an article on the seemingly ridiculous “rules of conduct” sign at the Harlem branch of Chuck E Cheese this past Monday. The article detailed how various gang clothing, conduct, and weapons were banned from Chuck E. Cheese and questioned whether the sign was motivated by the area’s racial or socioeconomic make-up. The article was well received and went a little viral with Gothamist.com, Curbed.com, Eater, NYMag.com’s food section picking it up, as well as it being re-tweeted hundreds of times. The thing that all of these outlets had in common is that every single one credited the story to A. Fine Blog. That was until this morning…

Yes folks it would appear that blog poaching season is in full swing! It is interesting to note that one Amber Sutherland is involved in this (latest) incident. If this name sounds vaguely familiar to some of you, dear readers, here’s why: she shared the byline on a certain article that made yours truly, um, rather unhappy.

You can read Mr. Fine’s whole sad story by clicking here.

Williamsburg Degentrification Watch: Wythe Avenue

March 5, 2010 ·
Filed under: 11211, Bloomblight, Culture War, Williamsburg, Williamsburg Brooklyn

Some of you might recall 242 Wythe Avenue (as seen above) is the former site of the sales office of the 80 Metropolitan Avenue “Star Quality” luxury condominiums (better known to locals as a living tombstone to landmarks preservation process and a cynical attempt at PR spin). Yesterday I found myself at this very location. And in so doing unwittingly stumbled upon the nexus of a culture war of the highest Billyburg caliber (READ: sullen utterances of revolt scribed using sidewalk chalk and paint pen).

This is the item which first caught my eye. It hails from the far left side of the building just above the call box. One does not see a semi colon used nowadays. This is because most people do not know how to use them properly. My heartfelt kudos go out to the grammar teacher who taught this person the correct way to connect an independent clause with an elliptical clause.

Now our intrepid chalkster (or chalkstreuse) has pointed out a potential pedestrian hazard. The natives are indeed getting restless!

The missive to the left reads “Shafer”. I have no idea what this means. The inscription to the right, however, is all too recognizable.

Of course, every opinion has its counterpart— and in post real estate boom Williamsburg they are conveniently located! In this case, next door.

Speaking as someone who has a MFA (and five figures of debt to go with it) I cannot help but wonder where the author of this missive is coming from.

Nevermind.

LAST GASP: Much Ado About Animals!

Starting tomorrow there will be a number of animal-related events in Williamsburg and beyond. Here they are in chronological order:

Tomorrow, March 5, 2010 starting at 10:00 p.m. New York City’s Animal Shelter Map, Trails to Tails will be unveiled on the steps of City Hall. A couple of north Brooklyn institutions will be present including BARC and our very own Assemblyman, the ubiquitous Joe Lentol! I have it on very good intelligence that these maps are pretty darned neat. If you have the time and/or ability to swing by, check it out! If nothing else, it will be an excellent opportunity to inquire of our fair Mayor as to why the Center for Animal Care & Control is so destitute they are soliciting donations for food.

March 5, 2010 starting at 10:00 a.m.
City Hall (1 Centre Street)
New York, New York 10007

Next up, North Brooklyn Cats will be having an adoption event at Muddy Paws Saturday, March 6 from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. Among the fetching felines to be featured are:

Noah…

and his sister Lilith

Wallaby…

and many, many more. In closing, I would like to point out that a good friend of mine recently adopted a rescue from this organization. His name is Bug (!) and you can see pictures of him enjoy his life of luxury (at least inasmuch as his big sis permits) by clicking here.

Last up, Greenpoint’s very own Empty Cages Collective will be having an adoption event this upcoming Sunday, March 7 starting at at 12:30 p.m. at PS9 Pet Supply. As some of you might recall these folks had an event last month at 8 of Swords Tattoo. I later learned they received no less than four adoption applications and a generous $100 donation from a New York Shitty reader. Me-OW!
