LAST GASP: Homicide at Huron & Manhattan Avenue?

I have received two emails about this incident. L writes:
Hi Miss Heather —
fyi – just saw this on Gothamist news map — sending as your investigative reporting is the BEST —
Homicide | Manhattan Ave & Huron St Manhattan, NY | 1/24/2010 5:31 p.m.
(lest it seems i regularly read crime reports (!), was looking for info on why a helicopter was buzzing my neighborhood for an hour last nite – but no report)

what’s the story?
That’s what I want to know. The story.
When I got off the B43 at 5:00 p.m.-ish today I saw an ambulance, two police cars and a handful of lookie-loos between India and Huron Street. If there was an “incident” it happened well before I came on the scene. I suspect I speak for many fellow Greenpointers when I write that I find this very disturbing. If anyone reading this has the 411 please tender them via comments or via email at: missheather (at) thatgreenpointblog (dot) com.

P.S.: L also writes;
…& while we’re on subject of crime – also on Gothamist, saw 2 reports of armed robberies at Roebling & N 9th in a week – one’s on today’s list (from last nite) — both evening, NOT middle of nite — that’s a dark & quiet corner — but seems stalled development has made things worse.

It would appear not everyone was displeased with shuttle buses replacing the G train this dreary Sunday afternoon.
2:25 p.m.
Then again, I suspect efficient mass transit was not a priority for this young couple.

After I took the above photograph (at 2:55 p.m., five minutes before game time) the man responsible for this display said:
Hurry up, I need to take this down! I do not want to jinx anything.
So hurry I did.
One cannot help but admire this level of dedication.
I hope this post doesn’t jinx the game either. Not because I am a big football fan (frankly I could care less): rather my gut instinct tells me I do not want this chap angry at me if they lose!

UPDATE, 6:20 p.m.: Shortly after this post was published the game reversed in favor of the Colts. The Jets lost. 30 to 17. Whoops.

I have watched this (which hails from 189 Guernsey Street) evolve over the years. I have been told it is supposed to be a trellis for grapevines. I’m not so sure this is the case. Anymore, anyway. It has become something more.
Much more.
This may very well be the Garden Spot’s solution to the Watts Towers.

TODAY: Cat & Kitten Adoption Event at Muddy Paws
Today from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. some of my favorite north Brooklyn cat ladies will be having an adoption event at Williamspoint’s very own Muddy Paws. I have it on very good intelligence the lass you see to the left, Cristal, and her fellow bottle babies Dom and Taittinger will be among the cats and kittens wishing to make the acquaintance of someone (perhaps you?) who will give them a loving, lasting home. Lest you are wondering why this trio is named after champagne, I will tell you: they were rescued from a kill shelter on New Year’s Eve. Why not swing by and say “Hi”? Who knows, you might make a new feline friend— or two?
North Brooklyn Cats Adoption Event
January 24, 2010 starting at 2:00 p.m.
Muddy Paws
447 Graham Avenue
Brooklyn, New York 11211
In closing, I will leave you with this footage of Cristal, Dom and Taittinger with their foster mom: a pup named “Spoto”. Be sure to listen for Dom’s ferocious growl at the very end. Too cute!
