Much Ado About the Gowanus Lounge

It has been brought to my attention that there has been much speculation about what happened to the Gowanus Lounge. Ben Muessig of Gothamist writes:

Less than a year after the death of blogger Bob Guskind, someone has apparently acquired his acclaimed Gowanus Lounge website and changed its focus. Sources close to the deal told Gothamist that Guskind’s wife was approached by a company interested in paying $7,500 to purchase the domain where the journalist once detailed Brooklyn development and neighborhood minutia…

I have a creeping suspicion who the aforementioned “source” is. It is none other than yours truly. It is in the interest of staving off even more speculation that I am writing this post. Last December my husband, who is the admin for the Gowanus Lounge, was contacted by a gentleman who was interested in purchasing the site: url, content, everything. My husband forwarded this offer to Bob’s widow, Olivia, as it is her property.

After much discussion, soliciting of advice and tough choices a compromise was reached: the url would be sold, but Bob’s work would be migrated to a different site: www.bobguskind.com. This has been done. I will not disclose what was paid for the Gowanus Lounge’s url. This is because it nobody’s business but Olivia’s and the purchaser’s. I will point out, however, that Olivia offered my husband and I a portion of the proceeds as way of saying “thanks”. We turned it down. As far as we are concerned it was the least we could do for a good friend. I hope this clears up any confusion.

As you can see, the Christmas display at 189 Green Street is even more spectacular in day light.

In fact, I’d go so far to say they have a jump on this year’s tree!

New York Shitty Day Ender: B61 R.I.P.

You may be gone, B61, but you will not be forgotten.

This post goes out to Bed-Stuy Banana and Best View in Brooklyn. Not only are you among the most wonderful, intelligent and downright nice people I have met via the Interwebs but you ran kick-ass blogs about kick-ass neighborhoods. I miss you and I suspect the greater “Brooklyn Blogosphere” will as well.

Take care and please keep in touch, BSB and BVIB. I love you both! I’ll darken your respective doorsteps come spring. Perhaps earlier.

Consider your respective persons warned! 🙂

189 green St. Fire escape. Check out the aluminum tree. Gives new meaning to Christmas cheer.

Needless to say I had to investigate this matter immediately. Here’s what I found.

I realize the above image is a bit lacking in terms of quality so I will describe it to you. It is a Christmas tree lovingly erected in the honor of the King of Kings. It is constructed of 12 ounce cans of Budweiser (the King of Beers)  and topped with a bow. It is located at 189 Green Street; Greenpoint, Brooklyn U.S.A.: the County of Kings!  As a very kindly chap across the street noted as I was taking the above photographs:

Pretty cool, eh? She even taped it so it would not fall over!

An opus as this deserves recognition. I don’t care if Christmas is last week’s news. This is Greenpoint Glory at its very finest!

189 Green Street, I salute you!*

*Chez Shitty is a Budweiser and Miller High Life household. Brooklyn Beer does not inhabit our fridge. The reasons for this are numerous, but I’ll tender two:

  1. The political leanings of Brooklyn Brewery’s owner, Steve Hindy. This gent is decidedly pro-Atlantic Yards.
  2. Most of “Brooklyn Beer” is not made in Brooklyn. It is made in Utica.

Mostly the first point.
